Martina Devi wins three medals

Martina Devi Maibam, India’s final competitor at the Asian Youth and Junior Weightlifting Championships, clinched two silver and one bronze medal in the junior 87+ Kg category in Doha, Qatar on Wednesday. Martina could not find her best form and finished way below her personal best of 237 Kg and had to settle for a silver medal, having a total of 225 Kg. She started the competition by lifting 96 Kg in the snatch to win the bronze medal. However, she did a better performance in the Clean & Jek and managed to lift 129 Kg and clinch the silver medal. She also tried a final lift of 136 Kg in C&J but faced a slight injury on her knee and failed to do so. With Martina’s three medals, India ended the Junior competition with 12 medals: 8 Silver, and 4 bronze medals. Asmita Dhone wins clean and jerk bronze medal

Asmita Dhone clinched the bronze medal in the clean and jerk category of youth women’s 49 kg weight class at the Asian Youth and Junior Weightlifting Championships in Doha, Qatar on Friday. Asmita registered the best lift of 94 Kg to clinch this medal and also break the national youth record in this category. However, she missed out on an overall medal, lifting a total of 162 Kg. In the junior women’s 49 Kg, Panchami Sonowal finished in the fourth position with a total lift of 166 Kg (72 Kg Snatch + 94 CJ) and missed out on any medal from the competition. Earlier in the day, Koyel Bar, in the 55 Kg B-Group, registered a Personal Best total of 182 kg (79 Kg+103 Kg) in the Youth Women’s category, breaking two youth National Records in the process. 16-year-old Jyoshna Sabar broke the Youth Asian Record in the Women’s 40 kg category with an overall total lift of 135 Kg to clinch three gold medals at the Asian Youth Weightlifting Championships in Qatar on Thursday. Jyoshna also broke two Indian youth national records at the event: Snatch (60 Kg) and Overall Total 135 Kg). However, her best lift of 75 Kg in clean and jerk was 1 Kg short of the C&J national record. Also, Jyoshna touched the World standard lift of 135 Kg in youth 40 Kg and fell 1 kg short of a Total Youth World record.
