Gul Panag points out ‘real issue’ of airline safety and pilot fatigue has been pushed to the back burner amid Indigo fiasco: ‘Narrative of chaos’ | Bollywood News

It’s a lesser known fact that actor Gul Panag is also a certified private pilot. She obtained her Private Pilot’s License in 2016 after training at Chimes Aviation Academy in Madhya Pradesh. An even lesser known fact is that her husband Rishi Attari is a commercial pilot, and currently works at the Indigo airline, as per his LinkedIn profile. Hence, amid the ongoing fiasco of Indigo cancelling hundreds of flights over its inability to comply to the new FDTL (Flight Duty Time Limits) rules, Gul took to X to lend her support to the airline. “While empathy for the pressure on crew and operations during this regulatory transition is essential , a NARRATIVE of chaos should NOT overshadow the intent behind the updated fatigue and safety norms — which ultimately exist to protect both passengers and crew,” she wrote. IndiGo Flight Cancellations Live Updates: DGCA Launches Strict On-Ground Checks

The move comes amid growing chaos across IndiGo’s network over the past four days, during which over 700 flights were cancelled today alone- the highest single-day cancellation count in the carrier’s 20-year history. Passengers at major hubs including Delhi, Mumbai, Hyderabad, Pune and Chennai have reported long queues, missing luggage, limited assistance and widespread confusion. IndiGo acknowledged that it misjudged crew requirements under recently revised duty norms, resulting in severe shortages at a time when winter weather and airport congestion were already straining operations. Despite corrective measures, the airline has warned that more cancellations are expected over the next two to three days as it attempts to stabilise schedules. IndiGo CEO Pieter Elbers has told employees that restoring normal operations and the airline’s hallmark punctuality will not be an “easy target”. The domino effect that led to IndiGo’s mass flight cancellations, delays| Business News

The hundreds of IndiGo flight cancellations and delays wasn’t triggered by one factor but is a consequence of a domino effect that has bought India’s largest airline to its knees. IndiGo was dealing with more than 25 flight cancellations daily due to lack of pilots, even before things came to a head this week. (Reuters) Disruptions triggered by the Airbus A320 issues snowballed into a chaos after a court upheld implementation of the so-called Flight Duty Time Limitations, which allow pilots and crew to get enough rest in between flight operations. First introduced in January 2024 but not implemented since then, airlines were hoping for another extension from the effective date of 1 November 2025. That, however, wasn’t to be. (Update: At last count, more than 300 IndiGo flights were cancelled across major airports in India on Thursday. More than 150 were cancelled on Wednesday.) What are the Flight Duty Time Limitations (FDTL) rules? The Flight Duty Time Limitation (FDTL) rules, implemented by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) to combat pilot and crew …
