Gurindervir Singh sets 60m indoor national record, Kujur disqualified

Gurindervir Singh delivered a standout performance to win the men’s 60m race at the National Indoor Athletics Championships, clocking 6.60 seconds in a dramatic final marked by multiple disqualifications. The race, held on the concluding day of the inaugural championships at the Kalinga Stadium indoor facility, saw pre-race favourite Animesh Kujur disqualified after repeated false starts. The decision significantly altered the contest, with Gurindervir capitalising to secure gold and register the fastest time of the meet. The 25-year-old, representing Reliance Foundation, improved upon the previous indoor best of 6.67 seconds set by Elakiya Dasan in 2018. While the mark stands as the fastest recorded by an Indian indoors, it is not recognised as an official national record, as the Athletics Federation of India does not maintain indoor records. The final was disrupted by three false starts, with Kujur shown a red card following the third infringement. The national 100m and 200m record holder briefly engaged with officials before leaving the track. Two other sprinters, Dondapati Mrutyam and Nehal Sagar, were also disqualified for false starts. …

2 min readUpdated: Mar 15, 2026 10:34 PM IST Young Indian athlete Selva Prabhu broken the Triple Jump national record to clinch the silver medal in the men’s triple jump event at the ongoing NCAA Indoor Championships in Fayetteville, USA. Selva, who won a silver medal at the U20 World Championships in 2022 and is the U20 national record holder, jumped 17.05m on Saturday to set the new indoor national record. This is the first time Selva has breached the 17m mark recording his new personal best. Apart from the Indian national indoor record, Selva also made a new school record for his college Kansas State City. He surpassed the previous record of 17.03m from Vince Parette in 1980, the jump almost a foot and a half farther than his previous best. Prabhu is the first men’s runner-up from K-State since 2008 when Scott Sellers finished 2nd in the high jump. Selva Prabhu Sets National Indoor Record with 17.05m Jump at NCAA Championships

India’s Selva Prabhu produced a breakthrough performance at the NCAA Indoor Championships in Fayetteville, USA, winning the silver medal in the men’s triple jump with a personal best effort of 17.05m. The 21-year-old, who represents Kansas State University, breached the 17-metre mark for the first time in his career. The jump also established a new Indian indoor national record in the event. A silver medallist at the World Athletics U20 Championships in 2022 and a former U20 national record holder, Prabhu’s performance marked another major milestone in his rapidly developing career. However, the recognition of the mark as an official national record may face complications. The Athletics Federation of India maintains strict guidelines for ratifying national records. Performances achieved in overseas competitions can sometimes remain unrecognised if they do not meet the federation’s technical and anti-doping requirements. The National Collegiate Athletic Association conducts its own doping tests but is not a signatory to the World Anti-Doping Agency code, which could affect the ratification process.
