A new growth model | Viksit Gujarat Industrial Policy 2026

A new growth model | Viksit Gujarat Industrial Policy 2026

For decades, Gujarat built its reputation as India’s factory floor. From textile mills in Surat and engineering workshops in Rajkot to ceramics in Morbi, pharmaceuticals in Ahmedabad and thousands of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs), the state created jobs and built one of India’s strongest manufacturing economies. Now, the Viksit Gujarat Industrial Policy 2026 signals a decisive shift—from making more products to making more sophisticated products, reflecting a transition from labour-intensive to technology-intensive manufacturing. Rayalaseema: India’s new industrial hub

Rayalaseema: India’s new industrial hub

Chronic drought and resultant famines have been an integral part of Rayalaseema, with the region having some of the driest places in India. However, the economic landscape here has undergone a perceptible transformation in the last decade and a half, as some mega manufacturing industries have started moving in with huge investments. Except agriculture and horticulture, which flourished in isolated pockets, Rayalaseema never had any major industrial activity to boast of, but this is rapidly changing and in no small measure. Numerous cotton ginning and pressing, textile mills, and mineral-based units were the earliest industries to come to the region in the mid-20th century. Multiple large-scale industries, including the State-owned Rayalaseema Thermal Power Plant, the cement plants of Dalmia Bharat and Zuari in the Kadapa-Kurnool belt, and a clutch of renewable energy projects such as the ultra-mega solar parks in the Kadapa and Kurnool districts, were established subsequently. After a big gap thereafter, the stage has been set for yet another tranche of massive investments, the most prominent being the integrated steel plant being built …

An industrial risk the Qatar blast shares with accidents in India | Explained

An industrial risk the Qatar blast shares with accidents in India | Explained

The story so far: An explosion at the Barzan gas facility in Ras Laffan, Qatar, claimed the lives of 12 Indian workers and one Pakistani worker on June 21. While local authorities have just begun their investigation, QatarEnergy, the country’s national energy company that maintains the gas facility, said the blast occurred when workers were restarting it — alluding to a well-known risk, but seemingly poorly managed in India, of a type of industrial activity called a transient process. How can restarting be dangerous? An industrial plant is often at its most dangerous not when it is running at full capacity because that is what it was designed to do. It is more dangerous when it is starting up or shutting down because during these transient operations, the facility is moving from one state to another. In fact, a typical industrial facility will spend more than 90% of its time in steady-state operations, i.e. when it is not switching between states. In this period, variables like temperature, pressure, and flow rates are fixed and/or predictable. …

Govt bars bulk industrial petrol, diesel purchases through petrol pumps

The Centre has imposed temporary restrictions on industrial, commercial and institutional consumers purchasing petrol and diesel from retail fuel stations, directing them to source their fuel requirements through designated bulk supply channels instead, reported PTI. The move comes amid concerns over abnormal growth in fuel demand at retail outlets, particularly for diesel, following a widening price gap between retail and bulk fuel sales.
