Industry leaders hail West Bengal Budget’s push on infrastructure, land reform and health

Prominent industry leaders of West Bengal on Monday (June 22, 2026) welcomed the first budget of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government in the State presented by Finance Minister Swapan Dasgupta, lauding its emphasis on industry, reconsidering land ceiling, infrastructure and healthcare. Mehul Mohanka, chairman, Confederation of Indian Industry Eastern Region, called it “a forward-looking roadmap for infrastructure-led growth and industrial competitiveness,” adding that litigation-free land was critical to large investments. “The emphasis on metro rail expansion, including studies for new metro rail projects in Durgapur, Asansol and Siliguri, is a welcome step, as improved urban mobility will support workforce movement, ease congestion and strengthen productivity in key industrial centres,” Mr. Mohanka said. Mr. Dasgupta in the budget proposed deep-sea port at Dadanpatrabar in Purba Medinipur on a public-private basis, a greenfield airport on 1,000–1,500 acres near Kalyani to ease congestion at Kolkata airport, and a feasibility study for metro links between Durgapur–Asansol and Siliguri–Jalpaiguri. Harshavardhan Neotia, chairman, Ambuja Neotia Group said that what is particularly encouraging about this Budget is that it looks at …

Single-window clearance needed for space tech growth in India: Industry | Ahmedabad News

A single-window clearance system and focus on policies and schemes to develop indigenous capabilities in the space sector to reduce the over-dependence on other nations were the demands raised before the Union Minister of State for Science and Technology and Earth Sciences Jitendra Singh, during an interaction with startups and industries in the space tech sector. The interaction was part of an event organised by Indian National Space Promotion and Authorization Centre (IN-SPACe) — an autonomous nodal agency under the Centre—here on Thursday. IN-SPACe chairman Pawan Goenka said the roundtable with about 80 CEOs and CXOs held on Wednesday gave ideas on what needs to be done to push the space sector forward. “The recommendations that emerged from the roundtable on what the industry is looking for from the government include the concern that we still do not have a truly single window system. Also, some of the current regulations, like export clearance, result in delaying the process. Sometimes, they have a time-bound dispatch for satellites. The clearances don’t come and they miss their slot. …

World Environment Day | Bhumi Pednekkar: No industry, including films, is doing enough to reduce their carbon footprint

On World Environment Day today, actor Bhumi Satish Pednekkar says her journey as a climate advocate began long before she entered films. Recalling her days as a “curious, troubled, worried teenager” who feared for the planet’s future, the actor, who serves as National Advocate for the UN Sustainable Development Goals, says, “I did not realise that I will actually be working in the space or for the cause. I just grew up imagining that the world is going to come to an end because of all the man-made disasters that we are pushing our planet towards. I felt like I was a naive child then, but look at the reality that we are living today. We are living that nightmare.” Bhumi Satish Pednekkar Rejecting the notion that individual actions do not matter, Bhumi, who has represented India at the World Economic Forum in Davos (Switzerland), adds, “The attitude of ‘Mere karne se kya hoga’ cannot exist today. Amid Don 3 row, Ranvir Shorey says producers cancel films ‘without any compensation for actors’ all the time

The Don 3 row involving Ranveer Singh and Farhan Akhtar has snowballed into a much larger debate about the film industry’s working culture. While the Producers Guild of India recently voiced concerns over actors walking out of projects at the eleventh hour, actor Ranvir Shorey has now weighed in with a counterpoint. Ranvir Shorey’s post sparked a debate on the film industry’s working system on social media. Shifting the spotlight onto producers, Ranvir questioned what happens when projects are abruptly shelved or cancelled from their side, often without any discussion of compensation for the actors and crew members affected by the decision. Ranvir Shorey turns spotlight on producers On Wednesday, the Producers Guild of India reacted to the ongoing Don 3 row. Without naming the film or Ranveer Singh and Farhan Akhtar, the Guild raised concerns over a growing trend of eleventh-hour walkouts by actors, directors and technicians, while urging all parties to resolve their differences through dialogue and mutual understanding. The statement was issued after the guild received formal complaints from Excel Entertainment and …

‘Ranveer Singh revived the film industry’: Cine artiste body’s Upasana Singh supports actor | Bollywood News

The Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE) announced on Wednesday that it was withdrawing its non-cooperation directive against actor Ranveer Singh, which stemmed from his departure from Don 3. Addressing a press conference, the film body maintained that the decision was not influenced by the legal notice sent by the actor on Tuesday. Instead, it said the move was made following requests from other industry bodies and in the larger interest of the film industry. Among those present at the press conference was CINTAA General Secretary and actor Upasana Singh, who voiced her support for Ranveer and praised the success of his recent two-part spy actioner Dhurandhar. ‘Ranveer Singh has revived the film industry’ Upasana said, “Ranveer Singh is one of the actors who has helped revive the industry. At a time when several films have struggled at the box office and the industry has been going through a difficult phase, Dhurandhar and Dhurandhar 2 have achieved remarkable business and created history. We need more actors whose films audiences genuinely enjoy watching.” Sharing a …
