Amid Donald Trump’s order over birthright citizenship in US, doctors highlight risks of preterm deliveries: ‘If a C-section is done to deliver the baby then…’ | Health News

As reports indicate that some Indian couples in the US are opting for preterm delivery of their babies ahead of the February 20 ‘deadline’ to secure birthright citizenship, Vasupradha, a 32-year-old data engineer, has chosen not to interfere with her pregnancy. A federal judge in Seattle has, meanwhile, blocked US President Donald Trump’s executive order in this regard, terming it “unconstitutional”. Speaking to indianexpress.com, Arizona-based Vasupradha, whose second child is due to be born on February 21, says, “Our first child has US citizenship. We don’t know whether our second-born will get it but we would like to wait it out because more than citizenship, what matters is the health of my baby as well as mine. I would not like to take any artificial route.” Vasupradha and her husband Venkat have declared that they are in “no rush” to meet the touted deadline. Health experts also recommend against opting for preterm deliveries which are fraught with risks.
