On IPL’s Impact On Indian Cricket, Dinesh Karthik’s Big ‘Influx Of Money’ Verdict

On IPL’s Impact On Indian Cricket, Dinesh Karthik’s Big ‘Influx Of Money’ Verdict

Dinesh Karthik feels that the Indian Premier League (IPL) has instilled a winning mentality in the Indian players over the years. “The IPL has brought out a winning mentality in all our players. With the influx of money and the financial benefits that a lot of the teams receive, and in turn the stakeholders, much of it has been put back into infrastructure. So, when infrastructure grows, eventually the quality of sport develops as well,” he said in a conversation with Mo Bobat, Director of Cricket, RCB, and former England cricketer, Isa Guha, during the RCB Innovation Lab Indian Sports Summit. The former India wicket-keeper further added, “We can say that since the IPL has become a part of Indian cricket’s fabric, they can now field two to three teams in international cricket at the same time and almost compete with each one of them. Right now, India is in a very privileged place where they have such a good assortment of cricketers across skill sets.” Reflecting on his experience of sharing a …

Construction boom and traffic congestion strain Pune’s infra: What needs to be done | Pune News

Pune is growing at a fast pace with the area of the city doubling after the merger of nearby villages. The population of Pune is increasing rapidly with an unprecedented influx of people. Now the city is also witnessing a construction boom. However, infrastructure needed to sustain such a growth is lagging far behind in all critical sectors — water, electricity, sewage, solid waste, roads, transport, health, education, public amenities etc. Traffic congestion has now become a major problem in Pune, gravely affecting mobility which is a primary need of people. Apart from the serious issue of rising air, noise and thermal pollution due to vehicles, the number of accidents on the roads of Pune and the resulting casualties has also been on the rise. With top priority given for vehicle-centric measures, infrastructure for pedestrians, cyclists and bus commuters is being neglected. The conditions for this most vulnerable section of road-users have hence become life-threatening. Senior citizens, the infirm, those with special needs, women and children are the most badly hit. Thus the situation in …

TISS Study: Influx Of Bangladeshi, Rohingya Migrants Worsening Mumbai’s Resource Crisis

Last Updated:November 11, 2024, 23:44 IST The TISS report states that as Muslim immigrant populations grow, demographic shifts heighten cultural insecurities fuelling tensions and social divides The TISS report shows that the immigration crisis has put unsustainable pressure on Mumbai’s already overstretched infrastructure. (Image for representation: AP/File) Illegal immigration from Bangladesh and Myanmar is changing and reshaping Mumbai’s political and socio-economic landscape, shows an investigation-driven study by the Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS). According to the 118-page interim report titled ‘Illegal immigrants to Mumbai: Analysing socio-economic and political consequences’, which was accessed by News18, migrants fill up low-skill jobs. This subsequently drives down wages, sparking resentment among local residents, which then becomes a vulnerability among political entities to be exploited for vote bank dynamics. The report states that as Muslim immigrant populations grow, demographic shifts heighten cultural insecurities fuelling tensions and social divides. The ongoing influx demands urgent policy intervention to address security, employment, and community stability in the city, it said in a summary for the investigation. Relying on available data and the …

Fears of Maoist influx to Odisha as neighbouring Chhattisgarh steps up ops | India News

As neighbouring Chhattisgarh steps up anti-Naxal operations with large-scale deployment of Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF), the Odisha government is preparing for the possible movement of Maoist cadres from Chhattisgarh to Odisha. “With large-scale induction of security forces, anti-Naxal operations are picking up in Chhattisgarh. In such a situation, there is reasonable apprehension of possible movement of Left-Wing Extremism (LWE) cadres, from Chhattisgarh to Odisha, and their possible relocation inside Odisha,” Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi said. The Odisha CM’s statement came days after 31 Maoists were gunned down by security forces in Chhattisgarh’s Abujhmad. Majhi, who attended a meeting of Maoist-affected states’ chief ministers with Union Home Minister Amit Shah in New Delhi in the aftermath of the Abujhmad encounter, has sought 12 companies – there are around 100 personnel in one company – of CAPF for a period of two years as well as a dedicated chopper. While LWE has been restricted to a few pockets in Odisha and incidents of violence have been minimised, officials said activities related to LWE in the …

Lakshadweep Can Never Handle A Major Tourist Influx. MP Explains Why

New Delhi: The “Chalo Lakshadweep” call on Indian social media amid a stand-off with Maldives over tourism may not even get off the ground given multiple constraints, including the lack of direct flights and the minuscule number — 150 — of hotel rooms. Even if it does, the tourist inflow has to be controlled in view of the fragile ecology of the island that has been propped up by a rulebook that lays down the number of tourists the islands can contain each day, Mohammad Faizal, the MP from Lakshadweep, told NDTV. Lakshadweep, being made of coral, is “very sensitive and ecologically very fragile,” Mr Faizal said. This is why, the Supreme Court appointed Justice Ravindran Commision has come up with an “integrated Island management plan”. This is the “bible for development,” which is consulted before roads, jetties or other infrastructure projects can be taken up. This “widely accepted” plan of the commission also suggests the “carrying capacity” of the islands and the  number of tourists they can have, he said. In view of this, …
