New Delhi, The Delhi Pollution Control Committee has floated a tender for the supply, installation, commissioning and 10-year operation and maintenance of 10 Continuous Ambient Air Quality Monitoring Stations across the capital. DPCC invites bids for installation, maintenance of 10 air quality monitoring stations in Delhi The project aims to strengthen Delhi’s air quality monitoring infrastructure through installation of at least 13 additional air quality monitoring stations this year. Out of these, 10 of them will function under DPCC. According to the tender document dated May 14, the selected bidder will be responsible not only for supply and installation of the stations but also for their operation and maintenance for a 10-year period from the date of commissioning. The scope of work includes daily reporting of ambient air quality data to the DPCC and the Central Pollution Control Board , along with online transfer and integration of data with government platforms. The stations will include analysers for gaseous pollutants, particulate matter monitors, meteorological instruments, calibration systems, display boards, UPS systems and other supporting infrastructure. Taking account of the recent spade of road accidents, Chandigarh deputy commissioner (DC) Nishant Kumar Yadav on Thursday ordered immediate remedial steps, including engineering improvements, correction of road geometry, installation of proper signage, enhanced road markings and traffic-calming measures. In the meeting, the DC reviewed the status of ongoing road safety initiatives and traffic management interventions and directed the departments to fast-track key infrastructure and accident-prevention measures. The Sikkim Cricket Ground in Mining marked a major milestone in the state’s sporting history with the installation of state-of-the-art high-mast LED floodlights, officially inaugurated on the evening of May 18 by Sikkim Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang. This development makes the venue capable of hosting day-night matches and high-definition live broadcasts for the first time in Sikkim. The project, worth Rs 12.2 crore, was fully funded by the Government of Sikkim and executed by the Sikkim Cricket Association (SICA). The work commenced in December 2024 and was completed on April 18. The lighting system features four 44-meter-high masts, each equipped with 64 high-powered LED floodlights, totalling 256 lights. Each light has a capacity of 1.2 kW, and the system provides an impressive 2800 lux illumination at the pitch well above the required standard for televised cricket. Chhatarpur: A statue of Dr B R Ambedkar, the chief architect of the Constitution, went missing from a village in Madhya Pradesh’s Chhatarpur district just two days after being installed, following which police have registered a case of theft, officials said. The one-and-a-half feet tall statue was installed on a pedestal in an open space in Bari village in the district on Tuesday, they said. Talking to reporters, Additional Superintendent of Police Vedita Dagar said, “We received a complaint of theft of Dr Ambedkar’s statue in Bari village located under the Garhi Malhara police station area around 12 km from the district headquarters.” A case has been registered and the accused will be arrested soon, she said. Dr Ambedkar was born in Mhow Cantonment town in Indore district on April 14, 1891. Sarpanch of Bari village, Asharam Ahirwar, said the villagers had bought the statue of Dr Ambedkar from Uttar Pradesh after crowdfunding. “The stone statue was 18-inch tall and had been installed in the village just two days ago,” he said. The HSRP is a tamper-proof number plate, featuring non-reusable locks. While regular number plates are made by pasting stickers on the plate which can easily be tampered with, the HSRP can only be removed by breaking the lock, preventing unauthorised replacement or tampering, official sources said. Initially, the deadline for installing HSRPs in vehicles registered before April 1, 2019, was November 17, 2023. Owing to slow compliance, the deadline was extended multiple times from February 17 to May 17, and then to September 15. To assist vehicle owners, the Transport Department has introduced a dedicated helpline for HSRP-related queries. For support, owners can reach out to 9449863429 or 9449863426.
