Blue Ghost private lander reaches the Moon intact

Blue Ghost private lander reaches the Moon intact

The Blue Ghost spacecraft has landed on the moon, making history as the first private lander to “successfully” achieve this feat according to its creator, Firefly Aerospace. The Texas-based commercial aerospace firm announced on Sunday that its lander had “softly touched down on the Moon’s surface in an upright, stable configuration.” This is technically the second private spacecraft to land on the lunar surface. Intuitive Machines’ Odysseus lander, which touched down last February, was the first US spacecraft to land on the Moon since the 1972 Apollo 17 mission, but its mission was cut short after it toppled over. Having nailed its own landing, Blue Ghost will now spend a full lunar day (about two weeks) performing research operations, including “lunar subsurface drilling, sample collection, X-ray imaging, and dust mitigation experiments.” These experiments aim to provide environmental data and test technologies that will help NASA again land crewed astronaut missions on the Moon. Blue Ghost is also expected to capture high-definition images of a total eclipse on March 14th, which will see Earth blocking the …

Champions Trophy, AUS vs ENG first impressions: Aura of the yellow jersey intact | Cricket News

DNA of champions The lead-up to the tournament was dominated by who was missing from the squad rather than who was in it. But again they showed that whatever XI takes the park in the famous yellow jersey, it still provides a formidable challenge. Chasing 352, they lost their proven match-winners in Travis Head and Steve Smith, but it was their less-heralded players like Matthew Short and Alex Short, and the under-fire Marnus Labuschagne, who made vital contributions while Josh Inglis played one of the greatest ODI innings in a big chase. The fact that they overhauled the target with 15 balls left proved that when the Aussies get on a roll, they are ruthless in putting down their opponents. Australia’s Josh Inglis is congratulated by teammate Glenn Maxwell after scoring century during the ICC Champions Trophy cricket match between Australia and England, in Lahore, Pakistan. (AP | PTI) Even while fielding, they pegged England back from a situation where they looked to be heading to a score of at least 380. They hung in …

“Both Hands Intact” Guideline For Pursuing MBBS Reeks Of Ableism: Court

“Both Hands Intact” Guideline For Pursuing MBBS Reeks Of Ableism: Court

New Delhi:  The Supreme Court on Friday said the National Medical Commission (NMC) guidelines requiring students with specified disabilities to have “both hands intact” to pursue MBBS course was “completely antithetical” and reeked of “ableism”. A bench of Justices B R Gavai and K V Viswanathan observed the guidelines prescribed “both hands intact, with intact sensations, sufficient strength and range of motion” to be essential for eligibility in the medical course. “This prescription of ‘both hands intact…’ is completely antithetical to Article 41 of the Constitution; the principles enshrined in the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities and the salutary provisions of the RPwD Act (Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act, 2016),” said the bench. The court went on to add, “It also indicates a classification which is overbroad and glorifies ‘ableism’. It propagates that persons with typical abilities and with faculties similar to what the majority may have or somehow superior.” This was precisely what the Directive Principles of State Policy, the United Nations Convention and the 2016 Act abhor, …

Image Source : PTI (FILE) Representative image Ceasefire violation along LoC: The Indian Army on Thursday dismissed reports of a ceasefire violation along the Line of Control (LoC), the de facto India-Pakistan border in Jammu and Kashmir, stating that the truce remains intact and ‘continues to be observed as per the understanding between the two armies.’  The statement comes after the reports of unprovoked firing by Pakistani troops in the Mendhar sector of Jammu and Kashmir’s Poonch district. Indian Army on ceasefire violation  In a statement, the Indian Army said, “The ceasefire on the Line of Control is intact and continues to be observed as per the understanding between both the armies (of India and Pakistan). Tension due to some stray incidents of cross-LoC firing and a suspected IED blast on one of our PTLs on the LoC is being dealt with through the established mechanism. No exchange of fire of heavy-calibre weapons has taken place.” The Indian Army further said that it has raised concerns with the Pakistan Army at the appropriate level. “Minor incidents …

MIT’s CuRVE Technique Achieves Uniform Protein Labeling in Intact Tissues

MIT’s CuRVE Technique Achieves Uniform Protein Labeling in Intact Tissues

Researchers have introduced an advanced method for labeling proteins in intact tissues, addressing a longstanding challenge in biological research. The technique, designed to ensure even distribution of antibodies across entire organs, has been demonstrated across multiple tissue types. This approach could significantly improve the accuracy of cellular studies by preserving tissue structure while enabling more precise protein detection. Scientists expect the method to aid in the study of complex biological systems, providing insights into cellular functions without altering the natural architecture of tissues. Breakthrough in Protein Labeling According to a study published in Nature Biotechnology, the technique, known as continuous redispersion of volumetric equilibrium (CuRVE), was developed at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). The research team, led by Kwanghun Chung, Associate Professor of Chemical Engineering and Neuroscience at MIT, tested the method on various biological samples, including rodent and human tissues. By controlling the speed of antibody-antigen interactions and enhancing molecular diffusion through stochastic electrotransport, the process allowed for uniform protein labeling in a fraction of the time required by conventional methods. Addressing Limitations …

IPL Auction: KKR come out with title-winning core intact, but without a captain | Cricket News

It was another auction where Kolkata Knight Riders had to patiently wait to get players who can play support cast to their retained players. As usual, they continued their habit of going big on one player – Venkatesh Iyer being the case this time. It appeared a case of overspending, but KKR have never shied away from doing so. It meant they had to settle for players who didn’t fetch interest from other franchises. But in terms of the big picture it won’t matter much as nine from their squad who won the title are guaranteed starters this time as well. In a first in paleontological history, sabre-toothed kitten mummy found in Siberia with intact skin, fur and toes | Technology News

Researchers, who examined the appearance of a 35,000-year-old frozen mummy of a newborn sabre-toothed cat, said the discovery of the extinct mammal cub “radically expands the understanding of distribution of the genus and confirms its presence in the Late Pleistocene in Asia”. In a rare paleontological find, a team of seven researchers led by A V Lopatin from Borissiak Paleontological Institute and M V Sotnikova from Geological Institute, Russian Academy of Sciences, uncovered the mummy, identified as Homotherium latidens, in Siberia’s permafrost along the banks of the Badyarikha River in Yakutia in 2020. The remains were found encased in ice alongside pelvic bones, a femur, and shin bones which contained the head and the anterior part of the body preserved approximately to the caudal edge of the chest. The felid cub, which was three weeks old at the time of its death, still has its whiskers and claws intact. The discovery provided researchers with an opportunity to describe the physical characteristics for the first time including insights into the texture of their fur, muzzle shape, …
