Who is Mahesh Dixit? Doctor-turned-IPS officer to now head Intelligence Bureau

The Centre has appointed Indian Police Service (IPS) officer Mahesh Dixit as the next Intelligence Bureau (IB) chief, according to people familiar with the matter. A 1993-batch IPS officer, Mahesh Dixit is from the Andhra Pradesh cadre. ((X/@VIGNESHBJP_KTK)) Dixit succeeds Tapan Deka, and will take over after the latter’s extended tenure ends on June 30. Deka, a, a 1988-batch officer of the Himachal Pradesh cadre, had been appointed as IB chief in 2022 and given two one-year extensions thereafter. The IB is India’s premier domestic spy agency which collects intelligence on several issues, including g terrorism, conflicts in different regions, threat assessments related to government policies, counter-intelligence. J&K Police foil major terror plot in Faridabad; 300kg explosives, AK-47s found

The Jammu & Kashmir Police, in coordination with the Intelligence Bureau (IB) and Faridabad Police, have foiled a terror plot by recovering around 350 kilogram of explosives, an AK-47 rifle, and a large cache of ammunition from a rented accommodation in Dhauj village, Faridabad. Faridabad RDX bomb news: The operation was carried out by the Jammu & Kashmir Police, in coordination with the Intelligence Bureau (IB) and Faridabad Police, . (Yogendra Kumar/File) The operation, which took place on Sunday, was carried out based on inputs from interrogations of arrested suspects in Jammu & Kashmir. The explosives were recovered from the residence of Dr Mujahil Shakil, a student of Al Falah Medical College, originally from Jammu & Kashmir, who had rented the house in Dhauj about three months ago, said police. According to police officials, the recovery included 14 bags of ammonium nitrate weighing around 100kg, 84 live cartridges, one AK-47 rifle, timers, and 5 litres of chemical solution. Big Cut For Intelligence Units In Nirmala Sitharaman’s Budget 2025

New Delhi: Intelligence gathering has taken a back seat in the Union Budget 2025-26 as the Centre has reduced the flow of funds of several verticals that deal with intelligence collection and dissemination, including the National Security Council Secretariat (NSCS) – the apex body for all matters concerning internal and external security. According to Notes on Demand for Grants (2025-26), Rs 182.75 crore has been allocated to NSCS in comparison to Rs 270.08 crore (revised estimate) last financial year. The budget of the Intelligence Bureau was also reduced by around Rs 100 crore. Last year, Rs 3,966 crore was allocated to the agency in the revised Budget but this year, the amount has been reduced to Rs 3,893 crore. “This (reduction) indicates that the number of personnel working in these two arms of the intelligence apparatus are being reduced as revenue in both heads have come down,” a senior officer explained, seeking anonymity.  According to the officer, salaries, pensions and other expenses of intelligence personnel fall under the head of revenue, and the capital suggests …
