UDF stand on Waqf will sacrifice minority interests, says Pinarayi Vijayan

UDF stand on Waqf will sacrifice minority interests, says Pinarayi Vijayan

The United Democratic Front (UDF) government’s stand in the Supreme Court that it will implement Section 14 of the Union government’s Unified Waqf Management, Empowerment, Efficiency and Development (UMEED) Act, or the Waqf (Amendment) Act, 2025, will sacrifice minority interests and adversely affect the writ petitions on the matter pending in the Supreme Court, Leader of the Opposition Pinarayi Vijayan on Tuesday. In a statement, Mr.Vijayan welcomed the Supreme Court’s quashing of the interim order of the High Court imposing administrator rule in the Waqf Board. However, he said it was worrying that the State government has repeated its position taken in the High Court last week that Section 14 of the new Waqf Act in the Supreme Court too. The amended Act had mandated the inclusion of two non-Muslim members in the Waqf Board, a move against which several pleas are pending in the Supreme Court. The previous LDF government did not include non-Muslim members in the board. In the intervention petition filed in the Supreme Court during the LDF government’s tenure, it also …

The sixth of seven stealth frigates under the ₹45,000-crore Project 17A, the warship is named after the Mahendragiri mountain range in the Eastern Ghats (PTI) “Recent events have once again proven how essential a capable and responsive navy is for any nation…From maritime security to economic security, the Indian Navy is the trusted power of the entire Indo-Pacific region,” Singh said in Visakhapatnam. Ryan Neelam: ‘Amid uncertainty, important to invest in ties with partners having same values, interests’ | India News

Joe Kent’s resignation letter says the quiet part out loud: US is fighting in Iran for Israel’s interests

Joe Kent’s resignation letter says the quiet part out loud: US is fighting in Iran for Israel’s interests

Joseph Kent, the director of the National Counterterrorism Centre in the US, resigned on Tuesday. His resignation letter, inter alia, states, “I cannot in good conscience support the ongoing war in Iran. Iran posed no imminent threat to our nation… It is clear that we started this war due to pressure from Israel and its powerful American lobby… Israel’s interests are not America’s, and its war with Iran should not be our war.” Joe Kent, a former Green Beret with 11 operational tenures and ex-CIA, is an appointee of President Donald Trump and Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard. Notably, Gabbard, who espoused anti-interventionism, hasn’t spoken about the Iran war publicly. Kent’s resignation comes hours after Trump repeated familiar claims that the recent US-Israeli military actions against Iran were to thwart the latter from acquiring nuclear weapons, arguing that this was essential for global security, as Iran is “a country that is sick…wanted to blow up the world,” and so on. Kent’s warning about strategic misjudgement stemming from coerced and manufactured consent brings to the …

Catalysts, love interests or aids in adulting – This Women’s Day, can we hope Hindi cinema allows for more equality on the big screen? | Bollywood News

Every year on 8th March, we celebrate International Women’s Day. I did a little digging to understand why, and it turns out that this day has its origins in Europe, Russia and America. The date and its significance developed over a period of time, inspired by the universal female suffrage movement, the role women played in the Russian Revolution, and an increasing number of women demanding attention on issues like equal pay, the right to vote and the right to dignity and safety. Even in India, on this day, we see a lot of content online and in publications celebrating women, referring to them as Durga, Lakshmi, and superheroes who don’t wear capes. Interestingly, in less than a fortnight after we celebrate Women’s Day this year, comes a big-budget film that celebrates masculinity in its most aggressive form. Dhurandhar Part 2, which releases on March 19, promises to tell a violent, blood-soaked tale where hirsute, muscular men use brute force to meet their goals, while the women remain firmly in the background. In Dhurandhar Part …
