Protesting ‘interference’ by a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLA in university affairs, wardens of all hostels at Ravenshaw University, one of Odisha’s oldest educational institutions, have tendered their resignations. The University Teachers Association has requested the Vice-Chancellor to take it up with Odisha Governor Haribabu Kambhampati, who is the chancellor of university, and safeguard dignity of teachers and integrity of the university administrative processes. The issue is connected with the visit of Kataka Sadar MLA Prakash Chandra Sethi, to the East Hostel of the university where student unrest was reported. Mr. Sethi reportedly had arguments over hostel and university matters with warden and other hostel staff. It led to a serious confrontation between the MLA and the University teachers, who were aggrieved that they were insulted before students. Subsequently, as many as 29 wardens and deputy wardens tendered their resignation. The issue has already been politicised, with student groups announcing a protest to demand to preserve the university’s autonomy. Karnataka chief minister D K Shivakumar on Monday rejected the opposition charge of his government’s interference in the ongoing SIR process in the state, and accused the BJP and JD(S) of “engaging in politics” over the issue. A total of 1,951 issues of interference with aircraft’s GPS system have been reported during the two years since November 2023, the government said on Thursday. In recent times, there have been instances of GPS spoofing and interference incidents at Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Amritsar, Hyderabad, Bangalore and Chennai airports. Minister of State for Civil Aviation Murlidhar Mohol said GPS interference reporting started after the publication of Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) advisory circular on November 24, 2023 regarding GNSS interference in airspace. “Total GPS interference issues reported (November, 2023 to November, 2025) are 1,951 nos after publication of DGCA circular,” the minister said in a written reply to Lok Sabha.
