ECB said that it was investigating  “a breach of team protocols” in the hours after England beat New Zealand by 115 runs in the first Test at Lord’s. “The ECB is currently investigating a breach of team protocols following the conclusion of the first Men’s Test against New Zealand. Ben Stokes and Gus Atkinson were present at a nightclub in the early hours of Monday morning when an incident took place,” said the board in a statement on Monday “We are currently seeking further information, and an announcement regarding the squad for the second Test will be made in due course. 173 public servants investigated for graft since 2012 yet to be suspended, says ACB report

Representative image | Photo Credit: PTI As many as 173 public servants across Maharashtra are yet to be suspended despite allegations and investigations against them in graft cases since 2012, a report by the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) has stated. According to the report released on Saturday, 30 Class I officials, 29 Class II, 106 Class III and eight officials of Class IV were investigated for corruption from January 1, 2012, till January 31 this year and have not been suspended. The highest number of 46 cases were registered in the Mumbai range, followed by Thane with 38, Aurangabad with 22, Pune with 18, Nashik with 16, Nagpur with 12, Amravati with 11, and Nanded with 10, the report stated. The education and sports departments have the highest number of pending suspensions at 41, the Urban Development-II (Municipal Councils and Corporations) has 36 cases, and police, jail, and home guards have 25. The U.K. government is investigating whether IBM’s acquisition of cloud infrastructure firm HashiCorp will result in a “substantial lessening of competition” within markets in the country. IBM announced its intention to buy HashiCorp for $6.4 billion in April 2024 to help it support its customers’ growing AI-related demands. HashiCorp provides hybrid and multi-cloud lifecycle management products, such as infrastructure as code tool Terraform, which facilitate building and running AI applications. HashiCorp will operate as a division of IBM Software rather than being brought into Red Hat, IBM’s open-source subsidiary. It said that the deal would help its products reach a larger audience. The Competition and Markets Authority notified the two companies of an upcoming Phase 1 probe on Aug. 1, 2024, and formally launched it on Dec. 30. It will have to make a preliminary decision on whether to carry out a full-scale investigation by Feb. 25 and relevant third-parties can submit comments up to Jan. 16. New Delhi: The CBI has booked one of its own deputy SPs posted in the Bank Security and Frauds branch in Mumbai for allegedly taking “undue advantage” from people probed by him, officials said Thursday. The FIR registered by the agency against Meena alleges he was utilising the services of middlemen for transacting the bribe money through a web of accounts and hawala channel, they said. Deputy SP BM Meena was booked for allegedly obtaining undue advantage from different individuals who were within the ambit of the investigation being conducted by him. The CBI follows a zero tolerance policy to corruption and other misdemeanour, and takes action against erring officers immediately, they said. The message from Director Praveen Sood is clear that internal vigilance is prerequisite to external action, they said. The agency has dismissed three officers under Article 311 of the Constitution without enquiry, while five were given compulsory retirement under the Fundamental Rule (FR) 56(J) of the Department of Personnel and Training service rules. Kathmandu: Nepal’s only billionaire, Binod Chaudhary, is under the lens of the Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) in connection with a government land-grab case. The matter came to light after CIB wrote a letter to Nepal’s House Speaker, informing him of their ongoing investigation. Mr Chaudhary, a lawmaker from the Nepali Congress in the lower house of the Nepal Federal Parliament, is being investigated for allegedly privatizing land belonging to the Bansbari Shoe Factory, a government entity. Hobindra Bogati, a senior officer at CIB, submitted a letter at the Parliament Secretariat informing House Speaker Dev Raj Ghimire about the investigation against the lawmaker in the land embezzlement case.
