Apple announced that the stable version of iOS 18 will be rolled out to eligible devices on September 16. The announcement was made during the company’s “It’s Glowtime” event on Monday. However, users can also choose to stay on iOS 17 and receive security updates for a while. This concession will be useful for those users who do not want to immediately update to the new operating system and deal with minor bugs and glitches, which could be present at launch. iPhone Users Might Be Able to Remain on iOS 17 for a While  While the norm is to update to the new version of the OS once it is available, iPhone users can continue to stay on iOS 17, as per a 9to5Mac report. Apple released the iOS 17.7 Release Candidate (RC) on Monday for developers and public beta testers alongside the iOS 18 RC, which means that the update will be available to users who aren’t in a rush to try out iOS 18. While the iOS 17.7 RC does not reportedly contain any new …

Apple Reportedly Adding a new ‘Repair State’ With iOS 17.5 That Keeps Find My on During Repairs

Apple is reportedly working on a new feature that will allow iPhone users to keep Find My on even when they send their phone for repair. This new feature is being called Repair State, and it is said to offer a workaround to turning the device tracking feature off, which can reduce the security of the device. This feature was spotted with the latest iOS 17.5 beta update. The global stable version of the operating system could arrive later this month. The feature was spotted by 9to5Mac within the codes of the iOS 17.5 beta 4, which rolled out on Tuesday for users who have enrolled in the Beta Programme. This feature is said to be partially working for beta testers. As per the report, the Repair State feature was likely added to allow users to track their device even when it is being repaired. At present, Apple requires users to turn off Find My when handing in the iPhone for repair. The guideline is also mentioned in Apple’s Support Page which states, “To prevent …

Apple is rolling out the iOS 17.3 Release Candidate (RC) to beta testers, weeks after it reached beta testers last December. The iPhone maker is now expected to roll out the stable version of iOS 17.3 as soon as next week — the final release usually comes a week after the release candidate rolls out to beta testers. The update which has been in beta for a while, is an important one, mainly because it adds Stolen Device Protection, a much-needed security layer when an iPhone is stolen and the thief has obtained the victim’s passcode. It is one of a handful of features that will make it to this update. iOS 17.3 RC began rolling out on Wednesday to users who have signed up to receive beta versions of Apple’s operating systems. Apple recently mentioned that an update was expected to arrive “later next week” in a press release related to the launch of a new Black Unity Sport Band for the Apple Watch. The release also mentions that a new Unity Bloom Lock …

Apple is working on enabling support for sideloading in the EU in the coming weeks, according to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman. Apple will have to comply with a Digital Markets Act (DMA) deadline of March 7, which means that support for installing apps outside the App Store — currently unsupported in any region — is expected to arrive in the EU within the next few weeks. Apple is also expected to allow developers to add support for third-party payment providers and promote offers that are available outside the App Store. In the subscriber-only version of his weekly Power On newsletter (via MacRumors), Gurman states that the iPhone maker will split the App Store in two in the coming weeks, in order to comply with the requirements under the DMA. The version of the App Store offered to users in the EU will be different from the standard version available to users in other countries. Under the DMA, Apple will also be forced to allow users to sideload apps — effectively allowing applications to be installed outside …
