The MCA has decided to introduce Grades A, B, and C, where players will be remunerated and the proposal was passed during the recent Apex Council meeting. Grade A players will be paid between 12 lakh to 20 lakh per annum, Grade B cricketers will be paid between 8 lakh to 12 lakh, while Grade C players will get 8 lakh rupees. “We had earlier promised that MCA will bring up the contract system, and we have finalised it in the last Apex Council meeting. A lot of thought has gone into it, and we have tried to cover each area. All players don’t get the opportunity to play in the IPL. This contract will help many players of today’s time who play all formats of the game for Mumbai,” MCA President Ajinkya Naik said. The MCA has become the first association to have a contract …

From Hathod to the IPL: How a small Rajasthan academy is producing big-money cricketers | Cricket News

In 2021, seven years after Vivek Yadav — a former First Class cricketer who played a handy role in Rajasthan’s Ranji Trophy triumph of 2012 and was even picked for an IPL team — gave up a playing career to become a coach of repute in his home state, his life was tragically cut short. He would suddenly succumb to COVID-related complications from early onset kidney cancer, never getting to see the results of his methods and convictions. Initially leasing a small ground from a school to turn the local Aravali Cricket Club into the Aravali Cricket Academy on the outskirts of Jaipur, the facility Vivek founded would become one of the premier destinations in the state. Next week, as many as four of his proteges will hope to take the field in this year’s IPL. Among them, three — wicketkeeper batters Mukul Choudhary and Kartik Sharma, as well as pacer Ashok Sharma — will be hoping to make their debuts. Mukul, 21, was signed by Lucknow Super Giants for Rs 2.2 crore; 19-year-old Kartik, …

Coach Nayar hails Blessing Muzarabani signing, eyes KKR’s ‘fourth star’ in IPL 2026

2 min readMar 19, 2026 12:11 AM IST Kolkata Knight Riders new head coach Abhishek Nayar on Wednesday termed the arrival of Zimbabwe pacer Blessing Muzarabani as a “blessing in disguise”, as the franchise looks to regroup after a forgettable last season and aim for a fourth IPL title. Addressing the squad during their first training session at the Eden Gardens, Nayar made a pointed reference to the late replacement of Mustafizur Rahman, welcoming Muzarabani into the fold. “Blessing, you are a blessing in disguise for us,” the 42-year-old former India all-rounder, who has been a longtime part of KKR set up under Gautam Gambhir, said in his opening pep-talk. Nayar was elevated to head coach ahead of IPL 2026 after KKR parted ways with Chandrakant Pandit following an eighth-place finish last season. Nayar had also recently taken charge of Women’s Premier League side UP Warriorz, who finished last in the five-team 2026 season.“I know so far we’ve sort of folded you in the bus, but it’s great to have you, the tallest member ever …

BJP leader calls Shah Rukh Khan ‘traitor’ after KKR gets Bangladeshi player Mustafizur Rahman for IPL: ‘He has no right to live in India’ | Bollywood News

Launching a scathing attack on Shah Rukh Khan, Uttar Pradesh BJP leader and former Sardhana MLA Sangeet Singh Som called the Bollywood superstar a “gaddar (traitor)” for getting Bangladeshi fast bowler Mustafizur Rahman for his Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) team in the upcoming edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). He went one step further and even claimed that SRK had no right to continue living in India. For the unversed, the KKR franchise is owned by SRK, actor Juhi Chawla and her husband Jay Mehta. “On one hand, Hindus are being killed in Bangladesh, and on the other hand, cricketers are being bought in the IPL auction. Shah Rukh Khan bought Rahman by spending Rs 9 crore. Today, anti-India slogans are raised in Bangladesh, the Prime Minister is abused, but traitors like Shah Rukh Khan are helping them by spending nine crores. They have no right to live in this country,” Sangeet Som said during a public event in Meerut. Threatening Mustafizur with dire consequences if he arrives in India to play in the …

From Instagram reels to IPL auction pool, how leg-spinner Izaz Sawaria almost got a big break | Cricket News

From Instagram reels to IPL auction pool, how leg-spinner Izaz Sawaria almost got a big break | Cricket News

A net session and a leg-spinner recording and uploading bowling sessions on Instagram using his phone. Ten months after he posted his first reel, Izaz Sawaria’s name entered the coveted player pool of the IPL auction. Even if it didn’t end with a team raising a paddle for him, Sawaria’s reels to auction story is unusual. “I just felt I should put them (reels) out there. You never know what might happen in the future,” Sawaria, the son of an Indian Air Force officer, tells The Indian Express. The 20-year-old, who plays district cricket for Ajmer but hasn’t played state cricket at any level for Rajasthan and is eligible for Under-23s, didn’t allow the disappointment of missing out on the IPL to linger for long. He waited through the second round, hoping his name would come up. When it didn’t, he moved on quickly. The very next day, he went back to the ground and played a match. “I thought I’ll start again. I’ll give myself a restart. I haven’t represented a state yet. So …

Sarfaraz Khan thanks CSK for ‘giving me new life’ | Cricket News

Sarfaraz Khan thanks CSK for ‘giving me new life’ | Cricket News

Sarfaraz Khan has said that he has got a “new life” after being picked by Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the 2026 Indian Premier League (IPL) auction. Sarfaraz first went unsold in the auction at first but was later bought by the five-time champions at his base price of Rs 75 lakh. If he plays, this would be Sarfaraz’s first appearance in the IPL since he played for Delhi Capitals in 2023. “Thank you so much, CSK for giving me new life. I will make sure CSK will lift the 2026 title,” the Mumbai batter wrote on his Instagram page. Sarfaraz’s continued exclusion from the larger Indian Test setup, let alone the first team itself, had raised a number of eyebrows. While he had established himself as one of the most prolific first class batters in the country in domestic cricket, Sarfaraz has turned heads with his form in the T20 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy this season. He smashed an unbeaten 100 off just 47 balls in Mumbai’s first match this season and cracked 73 …

Why CSK and MS Dhoni wanted uncapped players like Prashant Veer, Kartik Sharma in the squad | Cricket News

Why CSK and MS Dhoni wanted uncapped players like Prashant Veer, Kartik Sharma in the squad | Cricket News

An unfamiliar scene unfolded at the Chennai Super Kings auction table in Abu Dhabi on Tuesday. For the first time in ages, none of the officials or the coach consulted the team’s icon MS Dhoni, the 44-year-old veteran, during the minibreaks nor were on a call with him during the auction as the team went in with changed strategy of breaking the bank for young blood — uncapped Indian players. Dhoni wasn’t micro-managing the auction from afar but had given the go-ahead for blooding youngsters after watching preseason auction trials of players in Chennai. CSK had ended up with the wooden spoon last season, it was time for a change in personnel. Having walked in with a purse of Rs 43.40 crore to strengthen the squad, CSK bagged 21-year-old allrounder Prashant Veer, a like-for-like replacement for Ravindra Jadeja, and wicket-keeper Kartik Sharma, a 19-year-old. Both going for Rs 14.20 crore each, the most ever paid for uncapped players. In an era where franchises were unearthing explosive batsmen, by buying experienced players who seemed like safe …

Shreyas Iyer on PBKS getting Cooper Connolly: ‘He wasn’t in our mind at start, but we realised he fit the position perfectly’ | Cricket News

Shreyas Iyer on PBKS getting Cooper Connolly: ‘He wasn’t in our mind at start, but we realised he fit the position perfectly’ | Cricket News

Last season’s IPL finalists Punjab Kings (PBKS) had a quiet IPL 2026 auction on Tuesday in Abu Dhabi, making only four acquisitions. Having retained the core of the side that reached the IPL final last season, Punjab Kings were not in the auction for too many players to complete their 25-player squad for the upcoming season. The IPL auction saw PBKS secure two uncapped and two capped players, with Australian pacer Ben Dwarshuis emerging as the team’s most expensive purchase this auction. The Kings opened their account with Cooper Connolly, a batting all-rounder from Australia, who was acquired for Rs 3 crore. Connolly is a rising star capable of providing flexibility in the middle order, besides being a reliable slow left-arm spin option. After the auction, Punjab captain Shreyas Iyer, who has faced Connolly in Australia, revealed that the players was not on their radar initially. “Honestly, he wasn’t there in our mind at the start but as we brainstormed and narrowed down our options, we realized he fit the position perfectly,” Iyer said. “He …

IPL 2026 Auction: Why CSK spent heavily on youth and KKR on overseas performers | Cricket News

Father earned Rs 12000 as teacher; son Prashant Veer hopes to be perfect Dhoni student, picked for Rs 14.2 crore by CSK | Cricket News

A son of ‘Shiksha Mitr’ (Primary Teacher) who earned around Rs 12,000 per month, 20-year-old Prashant Veer was picked for Rs 14.20 crore by Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in Indian Premier League’s mini-auction on Tuesday. Veer wasn’t expecting too much, and like any uncapped player, he hoped someone in the auction room would merely raise the paddle for him. “I was just hoping that someone would raise their paddle, it took me some time to process that I have gone to CSK for 14 crores. Sapna lag raha tha sab, I told Rinku (Singh) bhai ke pinch karo ek baar. My family has not seen so much money in their life, this will change things for good. What I will do with the money, yeh sochney ka kaam gharwalon ka hai, mera nahi,” he told The Indian Express. (It felt like a dream to be picked by CSK. I told Rinku to pinch me. My family will decide what to do with the money. God heard my prayers.) Divine intervention or not, CSK needed to …
