Shreyas Iyer named India’s new T20I captain, replaces Suryakumar Yadav

3 min readJun 6, 2026 01:11 PM IST Shreyas Iyer was named India’s new T20I captain, replacing Suryakumar Yadav in the role. The 31-year-old’s appointment was confirmed by India’s chairman of selectors Ajit Agarkar, in the presence of BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia, in Mumbai on Saturday. Tilak Varma was appointed the new vice-captain in the shortest format and will lead India in the two-match T20I series against Ireland in Belfast on June 26 and 28. Iyer’s first assignment as captain will be the five-match series against England, starting in Chester-le-Street on July 1. Surya, who led India to T20 World Cup victory on home soil in March, was not included in the squad for the Ireland and England tour nor in the 2026 Asian Games squad, to be co-hosted by the Aichi Prefecture and the city of Nagoya in Japan. Iyer, who was appointed the ODI vice-captain in October last year, has not played a T20I since December 2023 but has built one of the strongest leadership CVs in T20 cricket, in the intervening period. …

Pant in good space, ready to give “fun” and “joy”

3 min readMar 20, 2026 07:47 PM IST His first year as Lucknow SuperGiants captain was unprofitable with the bat and modestly successful as captain, but Rishabh Pant promised “fun” and “joy” in his second season. Spotting a warm smile, he said in an interview on Jio Hotstar: “I think I am in a good space, physically and mentally.” Since the Test series against South Africa last year, he has been barely in the mainstream. He spent much of the time training with former cricketer Yuvraj Singh to revive his white-ball batting. He says he has learned from the failings of the past. “All the seniors I speak to tell me that in cricket, you can’t take it lightly even for a day. Today could be your day, but tomorrow it might not be, and that could change again the day after. So, just keep working hard. Decision-making and handling situations are important, but consistently working on yourself to improve, even when things are going your way, is important,” he said. At times, he turned …

Both Shreyas and Ricky sir never spoke anything negative after first ball dismissal: Priyansh Arya | Ipl News

Punjab Kings batter Priyansh Arya, who burst on to the Indian Premier League (IPL) stage this season after scoring a blistering 47 off 23 in the first match against Gujarat Titans, couldn’t follow up on that innings, scoring just 8 and 0 in the next two matches against Lucknow Super Giants and Rajasthan Royals. But the youngster roared back into form with a scintillating century against Chennai Super Kings on Tuesday. Speaking about how he kept up his confidence during that 2-match lean patch, Arya said that advice from head coach Ricky Ponting and skipper Shreyas Iyer helped a lot. “Ricky sir gave me confidence by saying that anyone can be out first ball. He told me hit it out of the park if you get the same ball,” he said in a selection media interaction. Story continues below this ad “Ricky sir always keeps telling me to improve my pull shot. Have not worked with him on the technical front, we talk only about mindset,” he added. He also revealed how the chat with …
