Teams defending their IPL titles: Dhoni tames Gayle, ABD and Kohli; MI’s last win | Cricket News

3 min readJun 1, 2026 05:33 PM IST Royal Challengers Bengaluru waited 17 years to win the Indian Premier League (IPL). And then, they suddenly had two trophies in two years. With the victory over Gujarat Titans on Sunday, RCB have become just the third team to have succesfully defender their IPL title, with the only other sides being Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings, teams that Bengaluru have shared a rivalry with but never quite matched in terms of trophy count until now. RCB are still a long way from equalling MI or CSK’s records though – the latter two sides have won a record five titles each. Here we take a look at the two previous IPL finals in which a team won the trophy for a second consecutive time. 2011 IPL final: CSK beat RCB by 58 runs CSK had won the IPL for the first time in 2010 and in the next one year, the tournament went through a bit of a storm. From being trolled to celebrated: Virat Kohli fans rally around ‘lucky charm’ Anushka Sharma after RCB’s IPL triumph

Even before they were married, actor Anushka Sharma would be a constant presence at the matches of the Indian cricket team and Royal Challengers Bangalore, supporting her then-boyfriend Virat Kohli from the stands. However, whenever Virat failed to perform (which was rare in those days), Anushka found herself facing intense trolling and being branded ‘unlucky’ for Virat. It was interesting to note how the tables have turned now as the same Anushka is being labelled Virat and RCB’s lucky charm as the IPL franchise lifts their second successive Indian Premier League title. Rajat Patidar and the conversation that predicted RCB’s future | Cricket News

Rajat Patidar and the conversation that predicted RCB’s future | Cricket News

Before taking over as captain of Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), Rajat Patidar, in a casual conversation with a friend, had wondered whether he could be the man to break their IPL title jinx. “Kya pata mein captaan banoo aur RCB jeet jaye (Who knows, I become captain and RCB wins),” childhood friend Abhishek Pathrod remembers what the Madhya Pradesh batsman had said. Patidar may or may not have the ability to see the future, but he has indeed led RCB to back-to-back titles after suffering repeated heartbreaks over the previous 17 seasons. The conversation took place after the franchise had offered him captaincy, a left-field decision as Patidar hadn’t even led at the domestic level. ‘We are seeing you as a captain from next season, the franchise had told him at the end of the 2024 season, something the unassuming cricketer wasn’t expecting. Patidar was given some time to consider the offer. “So, when he came home, I told him that he should definitely do it,” recalls Pathrod. However, Patidar didn’t rush to a decision …

‘We were probably 20-25 runs short’: GT’s Solanki after loss to RCB in IPL final | Cricket News

3 min readJun 1, 2026 09:14 AM IST Gujarat Titans’ (GT) Director of Cricket Vikram Solanki reflected on his side’s defeat in the IPL 2026 final in Ahmedabad on Sunday, acknowledging that they fell short in key moments while also crediting Royal Challengers Bengaluru for executing better on the night. “First and foremost congratulations to RCB, as far as our campaign is concerned we’re immensely proud as a group of what what we’ve achieved, there’s no question we would have liked to have gone one step further, there are a lot of other teams that would have taken our place as well.” “That said, as far as the game today, I think we were probably 20-25 runs short, but it was exceptional to see the fight and the hunger the guys showed to bring that game to close to the finish. Had we got 25 and these are all ifs and buts, of course, the fact is that we’ve been beaten by a side today, and my most sort of prevalent thought is to congratulate …

After leading RCB to 2nd consecutive IPL win, Rajat Patidar eyes ‘3 in a row’

Rajat Patidar sat in the press conference room of the Narendra Modi Stadium as a satisfied man, having become only the third captain after Rohit Sharma and MS Dhoni to lift back-to-back titles after Royal Challengers Bengaluru defeated Gujarat Titans in Ahmedabad by five wickets on Sunday. Yet, on a day when the celebrations could have easily taken over, the 33-year-old’s thoughts remained measured, even as he marked a personal milestone alongside the team’s success. “It feels really good. It is the best gift because it is my birthday today, so it cannot be better than this,” he said after winning the final. But even in that moment, the RCB captain quickly pulled the conversation back to what lies ahead, reflecting the same present-focused mindset that has defined his leadership through the season. “But I try to stay in the present. We now have to focus on how we can do three in a row,” Patidar added. “We will celebrate today, but then focus moves on again.” For Patidar, however, winning the title was more …

Sachin Tendulkar calls for 3 radical changes in T20 rules, starting with scrapping the Impact Player rule

2 min readMay 31, 2026 04:25 PM IST A score of 200 has for the longest time been a show of strength in T20 cricket but this season in the Indian Premier League (IPL) it was extraordinarily proving to be a below par score on a number of occassions. While the ceiling for big-hitting has been steadily rising in recent years in the IPL, particularly since the introduction of the Impact Player rule, it has gone to unprecedented levels this year leading to calls for changes to be made to restore balance between bat and ball. India batting great Sachin Tendulkar has suggested three changes to be made to T20 cricket overall, starting with scrapping the Impact Player rule. “The Impact Player needs to go away. That is my personal opinion. I feel, in a T20 match, you just have to play 20 overs and then you are adding one more batter to that lineup where bowlers are already being challenged,” said Tendulkar at the Cricinfo Honours. It has to be noted that the Impact …

3 min readUpdated: May 31, 2026 03:56 PM IST The weather has become a key talking point ahead of Sunday’s IPL 2026 final between Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and Gujarat Titans (GT) in Ahmedabad. The India Meteorological Department has issued a yellow alert for Ahmedabad, warning of thunderstorms and gusty winds during the day. The alert has naturally raised concerns about whether rain could affect the title clash at the Narendra Modi Stadium. IPL 2025 Final, RCB vs GT LIVE Cricket Score Online: Watch Here According to AccuWeather, temperatures are expected to remain extremely high through the afternoon, touching around 41-42 degrees Celsius before gradually easing in the evening.
