Former India cricketer slams Royals’ decision to shift IPL 2026 home games away from Jaipur

2 min readUpdated: Mar 12, 2026 05:50 PM IST Former Indian cricketer Aakash Chopra has questioned Rajasthan Royals’ decision to play three of their seven home games away from Jaipur, in Guwahati. Chopra pointed out that Rajasthan and Guwahati, the capital of Assam, are on opposite ends of India, making it illogical for the franchise to shift part of their home campaign to a city that, according to him, has little connection with the Royals, aside from being the hometown of their current captain, Riyan Parag. “Two teams are getting three games apiece at home. One of them are the Rajasthan Royals, who don’t play at home at all. I have never understood their story to date, as to what their system is. Their home away from home is in Guwahati. All three of their games are in Guwahati. I am wondering what their connection with Guwahati is,” said Chopra on his YouTube channel. “The team’s name is Rajasthan Royals. Robin Uthappa on Dhoni at CSK: ‘Genuinely feels like right time for him to step away’ | Cricket News

Former India cricketer Robin Uthappa has said that given the squad Chennai Super Kings’ (CSK) have on their hands after the IPL 2026 auction, this feels “like the right time” for franchise cornerstone Mahendra Singh Dhoni to step away from the side. “I don’t think his (Dhoni’s) role changes dramatically because this transition has been ongoing for a while. Ever since the captaincy returned to him from Ravindra Jadeja, you could see that he’s been gradually shifting responsibility year after year. Each season, more responsibility has moved towards Ruturaj Gaikwad. When you look at this squad now, it genuinely feels like the right time for Dhoni to step away, because many of these players were literally kids when he first started playing the IPL. From here, CSK will need to identify a core from within this group and build forward,” Uthappa said on JioHotstar’s TATA IPL Auction Review show. R Ashwin: ‘Sometimes I wonder if IPL is even cricket… We do end up practising on sets during ad shoots’ | Ipl News

One of the biggest veterans in the ongoing Indian Indian Premier League, Ravichandran Ashwin, has detailed how the IPL’s growth caught even the players off guard. The wily spinner recounted how when he entered the league, his only aim was to learn from international cricketers who were his teammates at various franchises. In its 17th season currently, the Indian Premier League is hands down the biggest cricket league around the world. The advent of IPL and its instant success not only led to cricket leagues springing up around the world, but also inspired franchise-based leagues in various sports like football, badminton, kabaddi and volleyball in India. “No one envisaged the kind of growth that the IPL has had. I still remember a conversation I had with Scott Styris when we were both at CSK. He told me that when he was playing for the Deccan Chargers in the initial seasons of IPL, he did not think the IPL would last for more than two-three years. Initially, there was a big influx of money,” Ashwin said …
