The Iran war and the uncertain future of the expats

India has already acknowledged the seriousness of the crisis. The Ministry of External Affairs had said that within less than a week of the war in the Gulf region beginning, more than 52,000 Indians had already returned from the Gulf under special arrangements, and the number may rise in the coming days. India has also issued repeated advisories on West Asia, showing that this is a real regional emergency. For the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) states, the danger is not only military but structural. These states built their prosperity on stability, open sea lanes, energy exports, global finance and migrant labour. A prolonged …

Ship carrying Iranian oil shifts course midway from India to China

A U.S.-sanctioned tanker carrying Iranian crude oil has rerouted mid-voyage from its previously indicated destination of India – where it would have marked the first such shipment in nearly seven years – to China. The Aframax tanker Ping Shun, built in 2002 and sanctioned by the U.S. in 2025, is now signalling Dongying in China as its destination instead of Vadinar in Gujarat, which it had indicated earlier this week, according to ship-tracking firm Kpler. Iran-Israel war updates on April 3, 2026 There is no confirmation that the destination that the ship’s Automatic Identification System (AIS) transponder – a tracking system mandated on most commercial vessels – is indicating is the final and it may not change at any time during the transit. “An Iranian crude vessel ‘Ping Shun’ that had been en route to Vadinar, India, over the past three days has dropped India as its declared destination near arrival and is now signalling China,” said Sumit Ritolia, Lead Research Analyst, Refining and Modelling at commodity market analytic firm Kpler. Modi government’s failure to condemn attacks on Iran shows betrayal of India’s civilisational values: Congress

Congress MP Jairam Ramesh. File | Photo Credit: ANI The Congress on Saturday (March 21, 2026) said the Modi government’s failure to condemn the US-Israel aerial assault on Iran and “force a brutal regime change” there reflected the “moral cowardice” and “political betrayal” of India’s civilisational values. Congress general secretary (communications) Jairam Ramesh said Prime Minister Narendra Modi also did not use his much-claimed friendship with the U.S. president (Donald Trump) and the Israeli Prime Minister (Benjamin Netanyahu) to bring about a cease-fire. In a statement shared on X, Mr. Ramesh said it has been exactly 21 days or three weeks since the aerial assault of the U.S. and Israel on Iran began. It has also been 23 days since the Prime Minister returned from his “much-trumpeted” visit to Israel, he said. “Has the Modi government condemned or criticised or deplored the launch of the heavy aerial assault on Iran by the US and Israel that has now led to severe economic dislocations everywhere, including India? The answer is NO. It has been exactly 21 …
