The Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) has launched a nationwide crackdown on unauthorised e-catering operators allegedly offering food delivery services to railway passengers without approval, officials said. The move is aimed at protecting passengers from food safety risks, cyber fraud and financial losses linked to unauthorised websites and mobile applications that misuse IRCTC`s branding and services, an official statement said. IRCTC said it has initiated legal and criminal proceedings against several operators found to be offering unauthorised food delivery services on the Indian Railways network. According to IRCTC, a legal notice was first issued to non-compliant operators on 18 February 2026. This was followed by official criminal complaints filed on 16 March and 11 April 2026. The organisation stated that action has been initiated against several websites allegedly involved in unauthorised railway food delivery activities, including RailRestro, RailMitra, TravelKhana, TrainsCafe, DibRail, RailFood, ComeSum, TravelerFood, FoodOnTrack.in, eCatering.app, KhanaOnline, TrainWay, RailMeal and TrainMenu. New Delhi: The Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) intensified its anti-fraud and cybersecurity initiatives during the year to ensure genuine passengers receive fair access to ticket bookings and to curb misuse of the system. IRCTC booked an average of 14.53 lakh tickets per day during 2025-26. (PTI) As part of these efforts, IRCTC informed that the corporation deactivated 3.03 crore suspicious user IDs in 2025. It also intercepted substantial volumes of malicious online traffic on a regular basis, helping safeguard the integrity of the ticketing system. In its official data, IRCTC said that in coordination with law enforcement agencies, 501 complaints were lodged on the National Cyber Crime Portal pertaining to 4.18 lakh suspicious PNRs. Additionally, 6.05 crore suspicious user IDs were placed under revalidation to verify their authenticity and prevent misuse. IRCTC also took action against fraudulent digital identities by blocking 13,343 suspicious email domains during the year. Responding to the incident, the ministry stated that the issue occurred on train number 21896 (Patna–Tatanagar Vande Bharat Express) on March 15. “The complaint regarding food quality raised by a passenger… has been taken seriously,” the statement said. Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw on Wednesday informed the Lok Sabha that more than three crore fake user accounts have been removed from the IRCTC portal as part of a major crackdown on ticket touts and fraudulent bookings, reported news agency PTI. The move is aimed at ensuring fair access to railway tickets for genuine passengers and curbing illegal practices that often lead to artificial scarcity. Crackdown on Touts to Ensure Fair Ticket Access Responding to questions during the Question Hour, Vaishnaw said the removal of fake accounts has significantly helped in reducing the influence of touts who exploit the system to block tickets and resell them at higher prices, reported PTI.
