Irrfan Khan ‘performed badly’ in some films, says Piyush Mishra; believes Tigmanshu Dhulia served ‘everything on a platter’ to him | Bollywood News

2 min readChennaiApr 8, 2026 06:24 PM IST Irrfan Khan’s death in 2020 broke many hearts around the world. While many lamented his passing, some fans pointed out how the actor’s work was fully recognised only after his death. In a recent interaction, Piyush Mishra opened up about this debate. He refused to accept the notion that “there is no other actor like Irrfan” and also stated that he finds some of his performances “average.” Speaking to Shubhankar Mishra on his YouTube channel, Piyush was asked about Annu Kapoor’s statement that actors are often appreciated more after their death. The Gangs of Wasseypur actor disagreed and said, “I don’t think so, when he was alive, at that time also he was appreciated a lot.” When asked about people saying that there is no other actor like Irrfan, he responded, “I don’t believe this. Every period will have its own actors who will keep working. These are wasteful talks. He did very well in some performances – Haasil and Paan Singh Tomar. I developed a complex …

The year was 2018. Irrfan was honoured for his nuanced portrayal in the blockbuster Hindi Medium, with the award presented by actor Manisha Koirala. As she announced the winner on stage, she said, “The award goes, very well deserved and my favourite actor, Irrfan!” Taking the stage to accept the award, Irrfan delivered a speech that was as heartfelt as it was characteristic of his understated wit. “Thank you very much for acknowledging me in the right context. ‘You’ll make Kal Ho Naa Ho again’: Irrfan Khan refused D-Day, accepted only when Anurag Kashyap said ‘Nikkhil Advani behak gaya tha’ | Bollywood News

4 min readMumbaiFeb 4, 2026 07:50 PM IST Those eyes. Those bloody eyes of Irrfan Khan. That line, by itself, says everything about the talent the late legend possessed. One could go on counting the many performances where his eyes shone the brightest, moments where they spoke before words ever could. And yet, not many would include Nikkhil Advani’s highly underrated D-Day in that list, where, once again, his eyes shocked, disarmed, evaded, and confounded, and in doing so, moved you. What makes it even more compelling is the knowledge that despite how extraordinary he was in the film, he almost rejected it. He was unsure of Advani’s capabilities as a director, uncertain whether he could helm a no-nonsense spy actioner. In an exclusive conversation with SCREEN, Advani revealed Irrfan’s initial reaction upon hearing the script. “Irrfan kept telling me, ‘Yaar, tu Kal Ho Naa Ho banayega toh. Kal Ho Naa Ho ke jaise beech mein gaane daalega. Itna achha script hai, tu yeh sab kar dega uss mein.’” (You’ll make it like Kal Ho …

Army subedaar turned outlaw, killed 9 to avenge wrong, was denied water and left to die; film on his life got Irrfan Khan his only National Award | Bollywood News

Cinema can be a compelling medium that inspires people to take drastic steps in life — but it’s also a two-way street. Just as films draw from real life, some lives are so extraordinary that they deserve to be told on the big screen. Such was the life of Paan Singh Tomar, an Army Subedar turned seven-time national steeplechase champion who later became a feared dacoit; his story brought to life by the inmitable Irrfan Khan. Paan Singh Tomar was born in Bhidosa, on the banks of the Chambal River in Madhya Pradesh. He hailed from the same notorious region as Phoolan Devi, the Bandit Queen, whose life inspired Shekhar Kapur’s National Award-winning film. Like many from the region, Tomar joined the Indian Army as a Subedar, but his exceptional running skills were soon noticed and he became an athelete. He represented India at the 1958 Asian Games in Tokyo, Japan. However, he couldn’t perform well because he was given new shoes just two days before the tournament. Tomar was a contemporary of Milkha Singh …
