GT’s Ishant Sharma Reveals How Ashish Nehra Made Pacers Mohammed Siraj, Prasidh Krishna More Effective

GT’s Ishant Sharma Reveals How Ashish Nehra Made Pacers Mohammed Siraj, Prasidh Krishna More Effective

Making Mohammed Siraj trust his outswinger a little more while getting Prasidh Krishna to bring his length a little ahead are the changes which Gujarat Titans’ head coach Ashish Nehra has brought about in the two pacers, which in turn has made them more effective bowlers, revealed veteran pacer Ishant Sharma. “Ashish bhai didn’t change much in his bowling. The only change he made was that sometimes, Siraj didn’t feel very confident in his outswing. But this is the only difference in a good coach, especially if that coach has bowled in international cricket.” “So he has that experience, and he always said to him, ‘Trust your outswinger. That is your stock ball’. He used to bowl with a wobble-seam – it would come in after the ball hit the seam. So he used to bowl it a lot earlier, and he stopped bowling his outswinger.” “So, Ashish bhai said, ‘No, your first ball will be an outswing. When this ball stops swinging, you will go for that ball (wobble-seam ball). So he …

Ishant Sharma Picks His “First Choice” For India Test Captaincy: “Only One Who Has So Much Experience”

Ishant Sharma Picks His “First Choice” For India Test Captaincy: “Only One Who Has So Much Experience”

Veteran pacer Ishant Sharma is backing Jasprit Bumrah to lead the Indian team on the tour of England and said Shubman Gill could be handed the job only if the peerless fast bowler is not fit to last the full five-match Test series. The captaincy debate has intensified following Rohit Sharma’s retirement from Test cricket, weeks before the Indian team’s departure for England for the series that will run from June 20 to August 4. “If Bumrah is fit, I would say Bumrah. That’s first choice. He is the only one who has so much experience. But if he won’t play all the five Tests matches, then obviously Shubman,” Ishant said on Saturday in response to a PTI query on Star Sports Press Room. Bumrah, 31, has previously captained India in the rescheduled fifth Test against England in 2022, and in the first and fifth Tests of the 2024-25 Border-Gavaskar Trophy in Australia. However, concerns remain over his fitness. The pacer had undergone a back surgery two years ago due to a stress-related …

Virat could have played till 40, Bumrah should be preferred as next Test captain: Ishant Sharma

Veteran India pacer Ishant Sharma noted that he expected Virat Kohli to play Test cricket for a few more years. Speaking about captaincy, the Delhi-born believes that Jasprit Bumrah should be preferred, but it depends on his fitness for the Engalnd series. New Delhi: In a shocking move, star India cricketer Virat Kohli announced his Test retirement earlier in the week. The 36-year-old had a subpar tour to Australia but featured in the Ranji Trophy clash against Railways, which prompted the cricketer might feature in a high-voltage series against England, slated to begin on June 20. However, ahead of that, Kohli announced his decision to retire, which wasn’t something that his childhood friend and former India colleague Ishant Sharma expected. The cricketer who represented India in over 100 Test matches, Ishant, stated that Kohli could have played till 40, but he understands that the cricketer wants something different in life. He highlighted his friendship with Kohli and noted that he must have talked with someone before taking such a major decision in his life. “I …

The Nivaan Sports Club in Gurgaon’s Sector 66 does not beam modernity like the swanky buildings in the background. But unlike any other cricket training nets, these premises are reserved for fast bowlers. Located at this club is PaceLab, the brainchild of former English First-Class cricketer Steffan Jones. This is where India veteran Ishant Sharma learnt to bowl quicker again at 36. Despite patchy form, Ishant was clocking mid-140ks for the Gujarat Titans this IPL, with an improved sprint to the crease in one motion. There are no batters or targets to aim at in the two modest nets. One holds a goalpost-like crossed mesh at the centre, and the other bears a grassy strip. Coach Ayush Mehendiratta’s discussions with young bowlers are on acceleration, impulse stride, ball velocity, and resistance. A former Haryana district cricketer, Mehendiratta owes everything to …
