Israel not committed to ceasefire, only to safe release of hostage Alexander: Netanyahu | World News

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has said that Israel has not agreed to any ceasefire or broader prisoner release deal with Hamas, but only to a limited arrangement allowing for the safe release of Israeli-American hostage Edan Alexander from Gaza. “Israel has not committed to a ceasefire of any kind or the release of terrorists but only to a safe corridor that will allow for the release of Edan,” the official X handle of the Prime Minister of Israel posted on Monday. The clarification follows comments from a senior Hamas official who told Reuters on Sunday that the group plans to release Alexander soon. The announcement was welcomed by key regional mediators Qatar and Egypt, who called it an encouraging sign toward restarting long-stalled ceasefire talks. It said soldiers found “weapons caches” and killed “a number of terrorists” in the south. Israel resumed its military offensive in Gaza on March 18 after a two-month truce in its war against Hamas, which was triggered by the Palestinian group’s October 7, 2023 …

US Holds Unprecedented Secret Talks With Hamas On Gaza Hostages: Report

The Trump administration has been conducting secret talks with Hamas on the possibility of releasing U.S. hostages being held in Gaza, Axios reported on Wednesday, citing two unnamed sources with direct knowledge of the talks. The important part about this talk is that US has never engaged with Hamas directly before, as it has designated it as a terrorist organisation in 1997. The talk has been held by U.S. presidential envoy for hostage affairs Adam Boehler with Hamas in Doha in the past weeks. Although the US government had spoken to Israel about the possibility of holding talks with Hamas, Israel learned about the engagement through other channels. The talks with Hamas have been regarding American hostages, but according to the sources, talks of a broader deal to release all remaining hostages have also been had, in order to reach a long-term truce. However, no deal has been reached as of yet. Steve Witkoff, special envoy to the White House planned to meet the prime minister of Qatar regarding ceasefire negotiations, but cancelled the trip after …
