11 reported killed in Lebanon as Israeli forces remain after a withdrawal deadline | News Today News

Israeli forces in southern Lebanon on Sunday opened fire on protesters demanding their withdrawal in line with a ceasefire agreement, killing at least 11 and injuring more than 80, Lebanese health officials reported. The dead included two women and a Lebanese army soldier, the Health Ministry said in a statement. People were reported wounded in more than a dozen villages in the border area. Demonstrators, some of them carrying Hezbollah flags, attempted to enter several villages to protest Israel’s failure to withdraw from southern Lebanon by the 60-day deadline stipulated in a ceasefire agreement that halted the Israel-Hezbollah war in late November. Israel has said that it needs to stay longer because the Lebanese army has not deployed to all areas of southern Lebanon to ensure that Hezbollah does not reestablish its presence in the area. The Lebanese army has said it cannot deploy until Israeli forces withdraw. The Israeli army blamed Hezbollah for stirring up Sunday’s protests. It said in a statement that its troops fired warning shots to “remove threats in a number …

US says ceasefire extension in Lebanon is urgently needed | World News

The United States said on Friday a ceasefire extension was desperately needed in Lebanon and that it was pleased the Israeli military has started withdrawing from central regions of the country. Israeli forces will remain in southern Lebanon beyond a 60-day deadline stipulated in a ceasefire deal with Hezbollah because its terms have not been fully implemented, the Israeli prime minister’s office said on Friday. “All parties share the goal of ensuring Hezbollah does not have the ability to threaten the Lebanese people or their neighbors. To achieve these goals, a short, temporary ceasefire extension is urgently needed,” said Brian Hughes, White House National Security Council spokesperson. “We are pleased that the IDF has started the withdrawal from the central regions, and we continue to work closely with our regional partners to finalize the extension.” Disclaimer: We do not own any of the content, ideas, images, or text presented here. After 3,700 Deaths, A Year Of War, Israel-Hezbollah Truce Deal Likely Today

After 3,700 Deaths, A Year Of War, Israel-Hezbollah Truce Deal Likely Today

The Israel Cabinet is set to vote on a ceasefire deal with Lebanon on Tuesday after Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu reportedly gave his “in principle” approval to the plan after a security consultation with Israeli officials. Here are 10 points on Israel-Lebanon ceasefire talks: The Israeli officials will meet on Tuesday evening to decide on the ceasefire deal as the United States, European Union, and United Nations have been pushing in recent days for a truce in the long-running hostilities between Israel and Hezbollah. Benny Gantz, who had resigned from Israel’s war cabinet in June over Netanyahu’s handling of the war in Gaza, has called on the Prime Minister to make the details of the ceasefire public. “Netanyahu, present the agreement. It is the right of the residents of the north, the fighters, and the citizens of Israel to know,” he wrote in a post on X. The deal that would end the fighting calls for an initial two-month ceasefire during which Israeli forces would withdraw from Lebanon, and Hezbollah would end its armed presence south of the …

Benjamin Netanyahu warns Iran after drones from Lebanon target Israeli PM’s residence: ‘Grave mistake’ | World News

Israeli prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Saturday claimed that Iranian-backed groups tried to assassinate him and his wife, after his office said that a drone targeted his residence. Israel’s prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu.(Reuters file) “The attempt by Iran’s proxy Hezbollah to assassinate me and my wife today was a grave mistake. This will not deter me or the State of Israel from continuing our just war against our enemies in order to secure our future,” Netanyahu posted on X. “I say to Iran and its proxies in its axis of evil: Anyone who tries to harm Israel’s citizens will pay a heavy price. We will continue to eliminate the terrorists and those who dispatch them. We will bring our hostages home from Gaza. And we will return our citizens who live on our Northern border safely to their homes,” the Israeli premier said. “Israel is determined to achieve all our war objectives and change the security reality in our region for generations to come. Israel Marks Jewish Holiday Amid Multi-Front War For First Time Since 1973

Israel Marks Jewish Holiday Amid Multi-Front War For First Time Since 1973

New Delhi: Israel entered Yom Kippur, the holiest day on the Jewish calendar, with the country engulfed in a war. The Day of Atonement arrived on Friday evening under the shadow of intense fighting on multiple fronts, marking the first time Israel has found itself at war during this religious observance since 1973. This year, the observance of Yom Kippur took place amidst rocket fire from Gaza, airstrikes in Lebanon, and tensions with Iran. As the sun set and Israelis marked the start of the festival, air raid sirens continued to blare across towns and cities. The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) reported that over 120 rockets had been fired into Israeli territory from Gaza, even in the early hours of the holy day. At the same time, Israel continued to retaliate with strikes on Hezbollah strongholds in southern Lebanon.  READ | US Wants Lebanon Solution, Not “Broader Conflict”, Says Blinken The IDF’s military operations in both Gaza and Lebanon have drawn heavy international scrutiny, particularly over incidents involving United Nations peacekeepers stationed in southern Lebanon. …

Live Updates: Hezbollah Missiles Target Haifa, Israel's 3rd Largest City

Today marks a year after the Palestinian militant group Hamas attacked Israel, triggering the year-long Israeli onslaught on the Gaza Strip. After nearly 1,200 people were killed during the October 7 attacks, Israel vowed to destroy Hamas. Relentless bombing in Gaza and military campaigns continue in the strip of land even after a year. The death count there has crossed 41,000, according to the Gaza Health Ministry, while the United Nations estimates that nearly all of its 2.4 million population is eventually displaced. Lebanon-based and Iran-backed Hezbollah later joined the war against Israel in support of the Palestinians, triggering further tensions in the Middle East region.  Here are the live updates on the first anniversary of Gaza war: Source link

8 Israeli Soldiers Killed In Action In South Lebanon Offensive: Army

Jerusalem: The Israeli military said eight soldiers were killed in combat operations in Lebanon on Wednesday, marking the first losses since its forces crossed the border to target Hezbollah. Earlier today, an Israeli army captain, Eitan Itzhak, was killed in action, marking the first Israeli combat loss in its ground operations in Lebanon.   “The IDF (Israeli army) announced that seven more soldiers have fallen,” it said in a statement after announcing the death of a first soldier in Lebanon earlier in the day. “Captain Eitan Itzhak Oster, aged 22… fell during combat in Lebanon,” the military said in a statement. A military website said Oster was killed on Wednesday, without providing further details. Hezbollah said its fighters were clashing with Israeli troops who had “infiltrated” a southern border village. The group said earlier it had forced Israeli soldiers to withdraw after they attempted to enter the border village of Adaysseh further northeast. It was the first time the Iran-backed group said there was fighting on Lebanese soil since the start of an escalation in recent weeks …

Iran Supreme Leader After Hezbollah Chief’s Death

Lashing out after the death of Hezbollah chief Hassan Nasrallah and civilians in strikes on Lebanon’s Beirut, Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei has said the savage nature of the “rabid Zionist regime” has been revealed. Mr Khamenei’s statement came on Saturday, amid reports that he had been moved to a secure location after Nasrallah’s killing and at a time when the world’s eyes are on Iran to see what steps it takes after the attacks on one of its closest allies. The Iranian Supreme Leader also called Israel’s war against Hamas – another partner in Iran’s ‘Axis of Resistance’ against the Jewish country –  in Gaza a “criminal” one and called upon all Muslims to stand with Hezbollah and the people of Lebanon. “The massacre of defenceless people in Lebanon has once again revealed the savage nature of the rabid Zionist regime, and at the same time, it has proven the short-sightedness and foolish policies of the heads of the usurping regime. The terror group ruling the Zionist regime has failed to learn a …

Israel Pounds Beirut But No Sign Of Hezbollah Chief Hassan Nasrallah

New Delhi: Israel continued ferocious rounds of airstrikes on Hezbollah’s key strongholds in southern Beirut in Lebanon today. These strikes, which began last night in the heart of the capital city, sent plumes of thick smoke billowing into the sky, sparking fear and chaos in densely populated civilian areas. The operations marked Israel’s most intense strikes on Beirut since shifting its military focus from Gaza to Lebanon earlier this week. The targets of these attacks were alleged Hezbollah strongholds scattered throughout Lebanon, with devastating consequences, including the deaths of hundreds of people. While Israeli television networks reported that Hezbollah’s leader, Hassan Nasrallah, was the primary target, a Hezbollah source, according to news agency AFP, later claimed Nasrallah was “fine,” though he has remained in hiding for years to evade assassination attempts. Nasrallah, who holds immense power in Lebanon, particularly among his Shiite supporters, is widely seen as the only figure capable of waging war or brokering peace. The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) claimed that the strikes resulted in the deaths of Muhammad Ali Ismail, the …
