Jaat Director Gopichand Malineni Breaks Silence Over Church Scene Controversy

Sunny Deol and Randeep Hooda’s film Jaat is under fire for a Church scene which has offended the Christian community. They demanded a ban on the screening of the film in theatres and recently an FIR was also registered against Deol, Hooda, Viineet Kumar Singh, the film’s director, Gopichand Malineni and the producers under Section 299 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Amid this controversy, director Gopichand has broken his silence. Sunny Deol and Randeep Hooda’s Jaat landed in controversy after a section of the Christian community raised objections to a scene in the film. On Friday, an FIR was filed against actors Sunny Deol, Randeep Hooda, Vineet Kumar Singh, and others for allegedly hurting religious sentiments. In response, the makers have issued an apology and removed the controversial scene from the movie. Hours after the FIR, the makers of Jaat issued an statement which read: “To whomsoever it may concern, there has been a backlash for a specific scene in the film. New Delhi: A case has been filed in Punjab against Bollywood actors Sunny Deol, Randeep Hooda, Vineet Kumar Siingh, director Gopichand Malineni, and producer Naveen Yerneni over a scene in their newly-released film ‘Jaat’. The FIR, filed by the Jalandhar police following protests by members of the Christian community over a scene in the movie, is registered under Section 299 (deliberate and malicious acts intended to outrage religious feelings) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). ‘Jaat’ row explained According to the complaint, one of the scenes in the film has “deeply hurt the religious sentiments of the entire Christian community”.
