FIR Registered Against Sunny Deol, Randeep Hooda Over Jaat’s Church Scene

Earlier this week, the Christian Community objected to a church scene in Sunny Deol and Randeep Hooda’s film Jaat. Now, an FIR has been registered against the actors for allegedly hurting religious sentiments. A complaint has been lodged with the Jalandhar police. Besides Deol and Hooda, the FIR has also been registered against Viineet Kumar Singh, the film’s director, Gopichand Malineni and the producers under Section 299 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). The scene in question featured Hooda, the antagonist of the story, engaging in violence inside a church. His character was seen standing under a crucifix with people praying in the background. The scene also showed him intimidating the people in the church, which angered the Christian community. The complainant alleged that the scene was done deliberately to outrage religious feelings. NDTV quoted the complainant as saying, “The director, writer and producer deliberately released this film during the holy month of Good Friday and Easter so that the Christians get angry and riots break out in the entire country and unrest is spread.” …

Sunny Deol and Randeep Hooda’s Jaat landed in controversy after a section of the Christian community raised objections to a scene in the film. On Friday, an FIR was filed against actors Sunny Deol, Randeep Hooda, Vineet Kumar Singh, and others for allegedly hurting religious sentiments. In response, the makers have issued an apology and removed the controversial scene from the movie. Hours after the FIR, the makers of Jaat issued an statement which read: “To whomsoever it may concern, there has been a backlash for a specific scene in the film. The scene has been removed from the film with immediate effect.” The statement further read, “Our intention was not to hurt any religious sentiments. We deeply regret it and have taken a quick action of deleting the scene from the film.
