Several youths from Maharashtra’s Jalgaon district, who allegedly came in contact with gangsters Shehzad Bhatti and Lawrence Bishnoi through social media, have been questioned by the district’s Anti-Terrorism Department, Sub-Inspector Ravindra Gaikwad said. According to officials, the youths from different parts of Jalgaon district were allegedly in touch with Bhatti – who is backed by Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) – as well as Lawrence Bishnoi via social media platforms, news agency IANS reported. The NCP (SP) leader, however, asserted that he was no longer interested in rejoining the BJP and would remain with Sharad Pawar till the end. Khadse, a former BJP leader, is currently a member of the legislative council (MLC) from the Sharad Pawar-led Nationalist Congress Party (SP). Senior Sharad Pawar-led Nationalist Congress Party (SP) leader Eknath Khadse, along with his daughter Sharda Khadse, has been booked by police in Maharashtra’s Jalgaon district for allegedly cheating an elderly woman and unlawfully taking possession of her land using forged documents, officials said, reported the PTI. According to police, the land in question was classified as ‘Mahar Watan’—a category of ‘inam’ land historically granted to members of the Mahar community (now classified under Scheduled Castes) in recognition of hereditary village services. Authorities alleged that illegal possession of the land was secured in the name of Khadse’s daughter from an 82-year-old woman, the news agency reported. Complaint filed by elderly victim The alleged fraud came to light after the complainant, Chamelibai Tukaram Tayade, lodged a formal complaint on March 9 with the Jalgaon district Superintendent of Police. She accused Khadse, his daughter, and certain government officials of wrongdoing in connection with the land transaction. Nationalist Congress Party (SP) MLC Eknath Khadse and his daughter were booked for allegedly cheating an elderly woman by assuring a sugar factory on her land and taking its possession with the help of forged papers in Maharashtra’s Jalgaon district, police said on Monday. As February draws to a close, Maharashtra is witnessing hot, dry and sunny conditions, with a steady rise in temperatures and increasing dryness across several regions. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), most parts of the state recorded dry weather on Monday. Jalgaon hotest, tops temperature chart Jalgaon recorded the highest maximum temperature in the state at 35.8 degrees Celsius, followed by Solapur at 35.4 degrees Celsius and Jeur at 35.0 degrees Celsius. Thane-Belapur logged a high of 35.2 degrees Celsius, while Pune, Chhatrapati Sambhaji Nagar and Sangli each recorded 34.5 degrees Celsius. In western Maharashtra, Kolhapur recorded 33.7 degrees Celsius, Baramati 33.6 degrees Celsius and Nashik 34.3 degrees Celsius, with relatively low humidity at 21 per cent in Nashik. The vote counting process at 29 municipal corporations across Maharashtra occurred mostly peacefully except for a few incidents and minor clashes between party workers at some polling booths on Friday. Seven wagons of a goods train carrying coal from Jalgaon to Surat derailed at around 2:18 pm on Thursday near Amalner station in Jalgaon district of Maharashtra, officials said. They said that the seven wagons that derailed include one locomotive. The wagons came off the tracks while the train was moving from the loop line to the main line towards Surat, they said. Following the derailment, both the UP and DN railway lines have been blocked, disrupting train traffic in the region. Union Minister Raksha Khadse lodged a police complaint on Sunday alleging that her daughter and some of her friends were harassed by a group of boys at an event in Jalgaon district of Maharashtra, reported PTI.
