James Anderson on retirement call

It has been ten months since England Test great James Anderson retired from international cricket post the first Test against West Indies at the Lord’s. While the 42-year-old was told by the England team management including coach Brendon McCullum and captain Ben Stokes that ‘it’s time for them to move on’, the former England bowler has revealed ‘He wasn’t anywhere near retirement in his head’. “I’m still a bit mixed on it. It’s one of those things that was out of my hands. They made the decision to move away from having me in the team. That was pretty gutting at the time. I’d been preparing before my last Test match for the next six, 12, 18 months of Test cricket; I wasn’t anywhere near retirement in my head. I felt I still had that want and hunger to play, to do the hard yards, the training, the skill work,” Anderson told The Independent in an interview. It was in May last year that the England team management including ECB managing director Rob Key, McCullum …

‘Sir Jimmy Anderson!’: England bowling great receives knighthood for services to cricket | Cricket News

England fast bowling legend James Anderson has been awarded a knighthood for his “services to cricket” as the resignation honours list of former Prime Minister Rishi Sunak was announced on Friday. Anderson, who retired from international cricket as the most successful Test seamer with 704 scalps last year, was the only sports person to feature in the list. While he has bowed out from national duties, the 42-year-old is still active on the domestic circuit, having signed up to play for Lancashire this season. Story continues below this ad “Congratulations Sir Jimmy Anderson,” said Richard Thompson, the current chair of the England and Wales Cricket Board. “This is a really well-deserved honour for an England legend who has given so much to our sport. “Jimmy’s career has been marked by extraordinary achievements, not least in winning the Ashes four times and becoming England’s all-time leading wicket-taker. “His skill, determination, and sportsmanship have inspired millions of cricketers and fans alike, in England and around the world. “This is fitting recognition for a true world-great who has …

‘I used hypnotherapy to calm myself, and my performances went through the roof for England’

Former England cricket Jimmy Anderson has opened up about the pressures he faced while he was playing at the top level and how he had found recourse in hypnotherapy to deal with his anger issues during games. In the interview with A Load of BS on Sport, now-retired Anderson spoke about experiencing red mist (a fit of extreme anger that temporarily clouds a person’s judgement) during games. But he added that once he started using hypnotherapy, he started putting in his best performances on the field. “When I was probably 29 or 30, I worked with this sports psychologist who suggested to me about using hypnotherapy (using hypnosis to try to treat conditions or change habits). So I went through a period of probably two or three years of using hypnotherapy to sort of mainlyfeel calmer and make sure I almost noticed the red mist coming before it arrived and was able to do something about it. I think that helped me massively. My performances around that time went through the roof and that was …

If they get 600, we were going to go for it: James Anderson reveals chat with Brendon McCullum | Cricket News

English pacer James Anderson made it clear that England will go all hell for leather when they come out to bat against India in a chase of 399 on Monday, the 4th day of the Test. “The chat last night from the coach (Brendon McCullum) was that if they get 600, we were going to go for it. It makes it very clear to everyone that we will try to do it tomorrow. I know there are 180 overs left in the game, but we will try to do it in 60 or 70. That’s the way we play, and we saw that tonight with Rehan (Ahmed) going out and playing his shots,” Anderson said. “He wanted to get out there and chase those runs down, even tonight. We have set our stall out, tomorrow will be no different, we will play the same way we have (played) the last two years. Whether we win or lose, it’s not relevant because we are extremely competitive and want to win every game we play, but we …
