Thirty years later, Jamshedpur still contains the world and all its resources within itself

Apr 11, 2025 18:43 IST First published on: Apr 11, 2025 at 18:43 IST Share As a government employee, especially as one heading an office, I sometimes find myself grappling with the question: What makes an area urban? My work involves working in a block. A block is a part of a district. The district I am working in right now, Seraikela-Kharsawan — whose headquarters are in Seraikela — is made up of nine blocks. Each block is made up of panchayats, each panchayat is comprised of several villages. The block I am working in is named Chandil; Chandil is comprised of 17 panchayats — village panchayats, to be more specific. We work for beneficiaries who come from the various villages spread across these 17 panchayats. Our block also has an urban area, placed under a nagar parishad. As workers in the health/medical department, we are given a catchment area, rural or urban, its population and our expected levels of achievements in the area, and then we get down to work. I quite regret not …

Mohun Bagan Super Giant pulled off a thrilling last-minute victory over Jamshedpur FC in a tense second-leg semi-final clash in the Indian Super League (ISL) on Monday. However, like all two-legged semi-finals, the game between MBSG and JFC on Monday too had its own set of surprises and developments. As expected, Mohun Bagan got to business from kick-0ff, pitting the visitors back in to their own penalty area for the majority of the game. The Mohun Bagan attack, led by Jamie MacLaren and Jason Cummings unleashed shot after shot at the opposition goal, with Albino Gomes and his defence scuttling to …
