‘There’s a fine line’: MS Dhoni reveals why he has stayed away from commentary | Cricket News

3 min readUpdated: Feb 4, 2026 08:33 PM IST Mahendra Singh Dhoni’s insights into the game are unparalleled. Many cricketers who have shared a dressing room with him either for the national team or in the Indian Premier League attest to this. But despite retiring from all forms of international cricket, Dhoni has never ventured into the comms box like other legends of hte game like Sunil Gavaskar and Ravi Shastri. Why? In a conversation with commentator Jatin Sapru, MS Dhoni revelaed why he has stayed away from commentary. “It’s a very difficult thing, you know. Commentary is very difficult. I feel there is a very fine line between describing the game and, in that process, getting into a zone where you start criticizing individuals who are actually playing. It’s a very thin line, and often you don’t even realize that what you are doing might be borderline wrong. I would always prefer to be on the side where you are simply describing the game. ‘Age is not a criteria’: MS Dhoni delivers verdict on Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli’s 2027 World Cup spot | Cricket News

4 min readFeb 4, 2026 10:00 AM IST Former India captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni has given a straight-batted response to whether we will see Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli play in the 2027 World Cup. There has been plenty of talk around the spot in the Indian team of both veterans—who only play in the One-Day International format for India—at next year’s World Cup. When Dhoni was asked the question by commentator Jatin Sapru during an event, Dhoni first joked and pretended not to hear the question. But then, Dhoni took guard and attacked the question about Kohli and Rohit featuring in the 50-over extravaganza that will be held in South Africa, Zimbabwe, and Namibia between October and November 2027. “Why not? Listen, the thing is—why should somebody not play the next World Cup? For me, age is not a criteria. Performance and fitness, these are the criteria. I always feel nobody should be told anything, but things should be clear: everyone will be treated the same way. When I made my debut, I was …

Ravi Shastri on watching Nitish Kumar Reddy’s ton: ‘There were tears in my eyes’ | Cricket News

Former Indian cricket and Head Coach Ravi Shastri was visibly emotional, as Nitish Kumar Reddy went on to score his maiden international century at the Melbourne Cricket Ground in the Boxing Day Test on Saturday. He was sitting with Jatin Sapru and Irfan Pathan in the commentary box, who were the only ones speaking until Ravi Shastri, in a shaky voice said “Ye aankhon mein aansu dene wala 100 tha” (This was a century that would bring tears to ones eyes). Ravi Shastri then told after the match, that it was because of how emotional the all-rounder’s father was. “I was emotional because broadcasters were showing his (father’s) photos. The sacrifice he has made to let Nitish play cricket and most importantly the character, the discipline and the application he has shown. “That’s why only you (Jatin Sapru) and Irfan (Pathan) were talking. I was tongue tied.” Emotions erupted when #NitishKumarReddy brought up his maiden Test ton! 🇮🇳💪#AUSvINDOnStar 👉 4th Test, Day 4 | SUN, 29th DEC, 4:30 AM | #ToughestRivalry #BorderGavaskarTrophy pic.twitter.com/f7sS2rBU1l — Star …
