India’s best at No.3, Jemimah Rodrigues, needs an impactful innings

India’s best at No.3, Jemimah Rodrigues, needs an impactful innings

Everything has clicked for India so far at the T20 World Cup. Two wins from two games, a commanding net run-rate and several players already finding top gear have made for an ideal start to their campaign. Smriti Mandhana has been India’s most reliable batter, Deepti Sharma their most influential bowler, while Richa Ghosh and Sree Charani have excelled in supporting roles. But beneath the positive results lies a subplot India will be eager to resolve. Their No.3, Jemimah Rodrigues, is yet to leave her mark on the tournament. The right-hander, who has been reinstated to No.3 after being pushed down during the England series, has had a quiet start to the World Cup. While she played a brisk knock of 19 against the Netherlands after the openers had put on 115 runs, it was her stay against Pakistan that raised a few questions. Shafali’s early dismissal meant India needed some rebuilding, with caution and aggression in equal measure. Mandhana, with her strong off-side play, was expected to provide the aggression, while Rodrigues had to rotate …

Jemimah Rodrigues: Challenges push me out of my comfort zone

Jemimah Rodrigues: Challenges push me out of my comfort zone

For cricketer Jemimah Rodrigues, success today is no longer defined by runs or trophies, but by the peace that comes from giving her all. The shift in perspective comes months after India’s historic ICC Women’s ODI World Cup win last November, a moment that changed life for the 25-year-old cricketer in more ways than one. Jemimah Rodrigues: Challenges push me out of my comfort zone “When I was starting, I used to think success is all about scoring runs and getting trophies. But with time, I’ve understood that success is realising you did whatever it took, irrespective of the results,” she shares. “I understood that success is coming back home, and accepting you did your best, irrespective of the outcome. And that gives me the peace to sleep like a baby at night. I think that’s the biggest success for me,” Jeminah explains. The middle-order batter, who recently joined promotional activities for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, adds that her idea of success has evolved through challenges and self-reflection over the years. “I think I …

Story behind why Jemimah Rodrigues was dropped, before scoring arguably India’s greatest innings in a WC chase, for men or women

2 min readMar 16, 2026 01:25 PM IST Jemimah Rodrigues played arguably India’s greatest knock ever in a World Cup chase, when her 127 off 134 helped India hunt down 339 made by the mighty Australia in Navi Mumbai. While India went on to register its biggest 50-over triumph of 2025 subsequently on November 2nd, and win their inaugural World Cup, the background to the knock added gravitas to the bombastic celebrations of an inning that followed. Batting alongside Rodrigues was captain Harmanpreet Kaur in a 167-run partnership. And on a night when BCCI honoured its top performers, Harman credited Jemimah entirely for how she had picked herself from the slump and gone on to play one of the all-time great knocks against Australia, when chasing. “That was a very hard call,” Harman recalled to Harsha Bhogle at the BCCI awards on Sunday, explaining the rationale to drop her premier batter, who as it turned out, kept India alive. “We had 4-5 batters, and one batter was under-confident,” she said of Jemimah’s lean run of …

IND vs AUS Pink-ball Test: Jemimah Rodrigues shows some fight, but Indian batters underperform again to leave Australia in control | Cricket News

4 min readNew DelhiMar 6, 2026 07:53 PM IST India perhaps produced the most jaw-dropping moment of Day 1 in the one-off Test against Australia, when debutant Sayali Satghare moved the ball prodigiously through the gap between bat and pad of opener Georgia Voll, starting from well outside the off stump and hitting the top of the leg stump. But in the grander scheme of things, on a day when 13 wickets fell overall, Australia finished well in control at WACA in Perth. Alyssa Healy’s decision to bowl first after winning the toss was vindicated as Australia’s seamers, led by the sensational Annabel Sutherland, picked up regular wickets in the first two sessions to bowl India out for 198. And having had to navigate the tricky period under lights with the pink ball hooping around, the hosts will rest easy knowing that their two most prolific batters in this format – Ellyse Perry and Sutherland – were unbeaten at stumps at 96/3. Rodrigues’ lone hand For India, many batters got starts, but it was only …
