India adds three golds at Asian U20 Championships as Shahnavaz, Basant and Nikhil strike

India continued its impressive run at the Asian U20 Athletics Championships in Hong Kong, collecting three gold medals, one silver and a bronze on a productive day for the country’s young athletes. The standout performance came in the men’s long jump, where Shahnavaz Khan clinched gold with a best effort of 7.84m. India also secured a podium sweep in the event after Jithin Arjunan claimed the silver medal with a jump of 7.66m. In the men’s high jump, Basant soared to gold after clearing 2.20m, adding another title to India’s growing medal tally at the continental meet. Jumper Jithin is ready for giant leap

Chennai: Heading into the junior men’s long jump event on the second day of the SAAF Junior Athletics C’ships, it was obvious the favorite was, Mohammad Atta Sazid returning from the U20 World Championships. Little did everyone know that Jithin Arjunan, a native of the Dindigul district of Tamil Nadu, would outjump Sazid and win the gold medal with a personal best jump of 7.61m. Having already secured the gold with a personal best of 7.51m, Jithin, in his last attempt, decided to go even bigger, finishing his event with a 7.61m jump, his personal best. Incidentally, this was his first international athletics meet and the 16-year-old has taken a big leap into the athletics circuit. India win nine gold medals on the second day

Indian youngsters had a dominant second day in Chennai at the South Asian Junior Championships, securing nine out of ten possible gold medals on Thursday. India added a total of 19 medals to their tally on the second day, bringing their overall count to 28 medals, including 12 gold, 13 silver, and 3 bronze. The day, however, started on a sour note for India as Sri Lanka, building on their first-day momentum, won the first gold medal of the day in the men’s 110m hurdles. Despite this, India quickly regained control, achieving consecutive top-2 finishes in the women’s 100m hurdles, men’s long jump, and women’s discus throw. Unnathi Aiyappa claimed the gold medal in the women’s 100m hurdles with a new meet record of 13.93 seconds.
