Police and JNU students were injured after they clashed during a march by the students’ union here on Thursday, with police claiming that they were assaulted but the protesters, many of who have been detained, alleged that the cops used excessive force against them. New Delhi: Polling for the high-stakes Jawaharlal Nehru University Students’ Union (JNUSU) Elections 2024-25 concluded successfully on Friday with a strong voter turnout of approximately 70 per cent.A total of 7,906 students were eligible to vote this year, of whom 43 per cent are women. “We are pleased to inform you that we have successfully concluded the polling process. Around 5,500 students have cast their vote,” said the JNU Election Committee in a statement. Voting was held in two sessions, and high engagement was witnessed across all schools, from the School of International Studies to the School of Language, Literature and Culture Studies. JNU to accept NET scores instead of NTA entrance exam for admission to PhD programmes

The Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) has announced the university will accept the scores of the National Eligibility Test (NET) instead of the National Testing Agency (NTA) entrance test as the selection criteria for admission to its Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) programs from the current academic session, i.e. Academic Year 2024-25. In an official release, the JNU said, “The University Grants Commission, to help the students with one national entrance test as part of the implementation of National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, has decided vide its Public Notice dated March 27, 2024, that score of National Eligibility Test (NET) conducted by UGC and the Council of Scientific & Industrial Research (CSIR) can be used by the Universities/HEIs for Ph.D Admission in place of entrance test.” The university has decided to use the NET scores for PhD admissions, effectively replacing the entrance test previously conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA). “Accordingly, JNU has decided to use NET score in place of the entrance test conducted by National Testing Agency (NTA) for admission to Ph.D Programmes in …
