‘Failed actors’: Vikrant Massey calls casting directors’ ‘bitter’, take jobs only to ‘run homes’ | Bollywood News

3 min readNew DelhiJun 29, 2026 04:15 PM IST Vikrant Massey started his acting journey at the age of 16, and it wasn’t the most easy one. The actor, who was juggling two jobs to pay for his education at that time, was given an offer by a TV producer while working at a Mumbai restaurant. During the early days of his career in early 2010s, he faced several rejections too. At a recent FICCI FLO event in Bengaluru, while Vikrant was talking about facing rejections, he called casting directors and assistants ‘failed actors’. He also claimed that they only take those jobs to run their homes. During the candid conversation, he said, “Most casting directors and casting assistants are failed actors themselves. Most of them. Failed is not the right word, maybe comparatively unsuccessful actors or they have not been able to recognise or realise their potential entirely.” ‘They try to teach you acting’ The actor further added, “They take up those jobs because they have homes to run. But, there is a bitter …

AI will reshape jobs, but India’s bigger challenge is preparing workers, boardrooms and classrooms

AI will reshape jobs, but India’s bigger challenge is preparing workers, boardrooms and classrooms

The debate around artificial intelligence has largely been framed around a single question: Will it take away jobs? But at The Hindu Huddle’s session on “I, Robot: How AI is reshaping the future of work”, industry veterans argued that India risks missing a far more important conversation — how to redesign education, skilling, research, and businesses for an AI-led future. Also Read: The Hindu Huddle 2026 Day 2 Updates The panel, moderated by Businessline editor Raghuvir Srinivasan, brought together former Cognizant CEO Lakshmi Narayanan, former NASSCOM president and NITI Aayog distinguished fellow Debjani Ghosh, and former Saint-Gobain India chairman B. Santhanam. For Ms. Ghosh, the current narrative around AI-driven job losses is often misplaced. “A lot of the displacements till now were due to overhiring during the pandemic. So it was correction that was happening,” she said, pushing back against the view that AI is already eliminating large numbers of jobs. That does not mean the risks are insignificant. As AI systems become capable of performing routine and repetitive tasks, entry-level jobs are likely to …

TMC MP Abhishek Banerjee. File. | Photo Credit: PTI The Enforcement Directorate questioned Trinamool Congress general secretary Abhishek Banerjee for 11 hours on Monday (June 15, 2026), in connection with the alleged primary school jobs scam case. Mr. Banerjee arrived at the ED’s CGO Complex office at 11 a.m. in response to a summons in a money laundering probe linked to alleged irregularities in the recruitment of primary school teachers. He left the office at night. “I was questioned for over eight hours yesterday [on Sunday] and for 11 hours today [Monday]. This is a 2023 case and I have appeared before the agency 10-12 times. I won’t say whether there is a political pressure or not. The less said of the BJP, the better. On the one side, they break our party and indulge in post-poll violence. Even if you slit my throat, I won’t cower down… I will appear before the agency if they summon me even in the future,” Mr. Banerjee said, while leaving the ED office. Officials said Mr. Banerjee was …

How directive ‘to protect American jobs’ has hit influencers, content creators

4 min readUpdated: Jun 11, 2026 04:21 PM IST The role of ‘influencers’ in major sports events has been growing ever bigger over the last few years, with many of them now being embedded by organisers and teams to create content that throws a positive light on them. But if they had thought that they could carry on their activities in the United States during the FIFA World Cup, the authorities have thrown cold water over their aspirations. Content creators and influencers, who travel to the country, will not be allowed to carry out their activity with only a tourist visa any more, immigration authorities have warned. Many of these individuals generate income from the content they upload onto digital platforms such as YouTube, TikTok, Facebook, and various other social media networks. This directive would hit them hard as many would have hoped to cash in on the interest generated by arguably the biggest sporting event on the planet. “Having the sole purpose of the visit be content creation (as an influencer), thereby generating income …

US adds 172,000 jobs in May, easing fears of labour market slowdown

3 min readUpdated: Jun 5, 2026 11:13 PM IST The US economy added more jobs than expected in May, suggesting the labour market remains resilient despite uncertainty caused by rising geopolitical tensions and higher oil prices. According to the US Labour Department, employers added 172,000 jobs in May after adding 179,000 in April, far above economists’ expectations of around 85,000 new jobs. How many jobs does the US actually need? Eonomists believe that the US economy needs to add between zero and 50,000 jobs every month to keep up with the expanding workforce. The fact that May’s numbers came in at over three times that baseline is being seen as a positive sign. However, the baseline number itself has dropped. One of the reasons behind this drop was the US government’s crackdown on immigration, which reduced the number of people entering the workforce. This has also made the unemployment rate considerably stable, with it being at 4.3% for three months in a row. Companies holding onto people – and not hiring aggressively While the number …

US planning to drop charges against Gautam Adani over ‘willingness’ to invest, create jobs: Report

US authorities plan to drop fraud charges against Indian billionaire Gautam Adani which were first unveiled in 2024, according to a Bloomberg report citing persons familiar with the matter. The legal charges against the Adani group represented a serious challenge to the firm’s ability to conduct business in the United States. (Adani Group) In a significant breakthrough for the Adani Group, the US Justice Department and the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) could resolve charges related to Gautam Adani as soon as this week, roughly 18 months after they accused the Indian magnate of involvement in a bribery and fraud scheme. Adani’s hiring of Robert Giuffra, one of US President Donald Trump’s personal lawyers, and an offer to invest $10 billion in the US economy played a key role in the US government’s decision, a report in the New York Times added. In 2024, the US Attorney’s office in New York’s Brooklyn released a criminal indictment which alleged that Gautam Adani, his nephew Sagar Adani and other executives were involved in a scheme to bribe …
