Huge Concern For England Cricket, Qualification For 2027 World Cup Could Be In Doubt. Here’s Why

Huge Concern For England Cricket, Qualification For 2027 World Cup Could Be In Doubt. Here’s Why

England have slipped to eighth place in the ICC Men’s ODI rankings following the annual update last week, raising concerns about their direct qualification for the 2027 ODI World Cup, as per Wisden. The rankings update with each match and series played, but annual update reduces the impact of matches older than a year and completely removes results from over three years ago. As a result, England, despite climbing to No. 2 in the Test rankings, dropped to eighth in ODIs. Between May 4, 2024 and May 4, 2025, they managed just three wins in 14 ODIs, giving them a win/loss ratio of 0.272 — better only than Nepal and Bangladesh in that period. This decline could affect their path to the next World Cup. The 2027 edition will feature 14 teams. South Africa and Zimbabwe have already secured their spots as co-hosts. Namibia, another host, won’t get automatic entry because only ICC Full Member hosts get that benefit. Eight other teams will qualify directly through the ODI rankings, excluding the host nations. …

2nd ODI: England Batters Needed To Push On And Get Us To 350, Admits Jos Buttler

2nd ODI: England Batters Needed To Push On And Get Us To 350, Admits Jos Buttler

File photo of Jos Buttler.© BCCI After suffering their fourth consecutive ODI series defeat with a four-wicket loss to India at the Barabati Stadium on Sunday, England skipper Jos Buttler admitted that they could have reached 350 in their batting innings if some batters had spent more time at the crease. Electing to bat first on a black soil pitch, Joe Root and Ben Duckett smashed 69 and 65 respectively while Liam Livingstone applied finishing touches with his 41 as England posted a mammoth 304 in 49.5 overs but they lost their last seven wickets for 85 runs, after being primed to make 330 at one point. Though England batted for longer periods and got past 300, it wasn’t enough for them to stop India from winning the game, with captain Rohit Sharma’s masterly 32nd ODI century leading their charge to chase down 305 with 33 balls to spare. “I thought we did a lot of things well, and we got into some nice positions with the bat, but we need a few …

1st ODI: Disappointed Not To Win The Game Against India, Says Jos Buttler

1st ODI: Disappointed Not To Win The Game Against India, Says Jos Buttler

England’s current tour of India is turning out to be a story of missed chances as Jos Buttler’s team once again failed to exploit the slight edge they got both with the bat and ball to end up on the losing side in the first ODI against India at the Vidarbha Cricket Association (VCA) Stadium in Nagpur on Thursday. England had similarly failed to come on top of the situation in the preceding T20I series and lost it 4-1 after winning the third match to reduce the margin. In the first ODI on Thursday, England made a good start by reaching 70-odd runs without loss in the power-play before they made a hash of things and lost wickets in a cluster to be bowled out for 248. They then has another opportunity to take control of the situation after reducing India to 19/2, getting out Rohit Sharma and Yashasvi Jaiswal cheaply. But Shubman Gill (87) and Shreyas Iyer (59) added 94 runs for the third wicket to take back the initiative. Gill and …

ENG vs PAK 2nd T20I: Jos Buttler Helps England Take 1-0 Lead With Easy Win Over Pakistan

Jofra Archer claimed two wickets on his long-awaited return to international cricket as England beat Pakistan by 23 runs at Edgbaston to move 1-0 up in the four-match T20 series. England captain Jos Buttler won man-of-the-match after he smashed 84 off 51 balls to set the hosts a target of 184. But it was Archer’s return that caught the eye as he made a case for selection in next month’s T20 World Cup in the United States and West Indies no harm. The fast bowler has been beset by elbow injuries since his starring role in helping England win the 50-over World Cup in 2019. On his first international appearance for 14 months, and first on home soil since 2020, Archer bounced back from an expensive first over, which went for 15 runs, to finish with two for 28. “I thought Jofra Archer was brilliant,” said Buttler. “You could see his emotion taking wickets for England again but we need to temper those expectations because he’s not going to be the same straight …

Virat Kohli Among 3 Indians Picked As ICC Announces Men’s T20I Team Of The Year 2022

Virat Kohli, Suryakumar Yadav and Hardik Pandya are the Indian players who have made cuts into the Men’s T20I Team of the Year 2022 announced by the International Cricket Council on Monday. While Kohli has been altogether a different batter since the 2022 Asia Cup — which was held in the T20 format, Suryakumar has been a batting sensation for the Indian side in the shortest format for quite a long time now. On the other hand, Hardik Pandya provided the team a perfect balance with some superb all-round performance.
