Days after Jubilee Hills murder-cum-robbery, another house robbery involving domestic workers in Jawahar Nagar

Days after a Nepali gang carried out a murder-cum-robbery at a retired IPS officer’s residence in Jubilee Hills, Hyderabad, another robbery involving domestic workers has been reported from Golf Enclave Kowkoor in Jawahar Nagar on Wednesday (May 13, 2026). An elderly couple was allegedly tied up and robbed by a gang comprising their recently hired house help and several accomplices, who decamped with valuables from the residence. The gang allegedly tied up the couple, looted valuables including around 60 tolas of gold and cash, and fled from the scene. Police said the couple is safe. They were later rescued, after neighbours alerted the police. Senior police officials visited the spot and multiple teams were formed to trace the accused. Investigators are examining CCTV footage from surrounding areas and verifying the background details of the domestic workers involved. Further details are awaited. Preliminary investigation suggest robbery as the possible motive behind the murder. Prashasan Nagar is an upscale locality with several serving and former bureaucrats living in the area. The deceased was identified as 55-year-old Tanuja Ranjan. Police suspect the involvement of a domestic help in the crime, while initial findings also indicate possible involvement of a gang. Hyderabad Police Commissioner V.C. Sajjanar said the incident occurred at around 2 a.m. and preliminary investigation pointed to the involvement of a gang from Nepal. The Golden Jubilee celebrations were held shortly before the train’s scheduled departure at 10:30 pm, drawing the presence of railway officials, staff, rail enthusiasts, passenger association members and local residents. Dipa De Motwane breathed her last on Saturday. Mother of renowned filmmaker Vikramaditya Motwane, she was also a seasoned producer in her own right. Having started her career as an associate producer on Somnath Sen’s Leela (2002), she also worked on the sets of Vishal Bhardwaj’s 2002 horror comedy Makdee and Ashvin Kumar’s 2009 adventure film The Forest. Working with her son Dipa De Motwane then turned producer with her son Vikramaditya Motwane’s 2010 directorial debut and seminal coming-of-age film Udaan. She became a producer at Phantom Films, then co-owned by Motwane, Anurag Kashyap, Vikas Bahl, and Madhu Mantena. In that capacity, she worked on films like Lootera (2013), Hasee Toh Phasee (2014), NH10 (2015), Masaan (2015), Trapped (2016), and Bhavesh Joshi Superhero (2017), among others.
