Special Judge Ajay Gupta was hearing the agency’s plea to interrogate both the accused and allowed the plea. Seeking extension of Hawaldar’s custody, the Special Public Prosecutor V.K. Pathak submitted that she was empanelled as a physics translator by the National Testing Agency (NTA) and had allegedly, in conspiracy with other accused persons, unauthorisedly retained and distributed the NEET-UG examination paper for monetary consideration. He told the court that her custodial interrogation was necessary to identify other accused persons allegedly involved in the conspiracy and to further investigate the case. The panel will submit its report to the government in three months, the official said on Sunday (May 10, 2026). The cruise boat, operated by the Madhya Pradesh Tourism Department, capsized on April 30 in the Bargi Dam in Jabalpur district, killing 13 persons, including women and children, while 28 others were rescued. The commission, formed on Sunday (May 10) under the chairmanship of retired High Court judge Sanjay Dwivedi, will probe the causes of the accident, examine whether adequate rescue and relief measures were taken, and fix responsibility, the official said. According to the order on Tuesday, the suspension has been ordered in exercise of the High Court’s disciplinary jurisdiction under Article 235 of the Constitution, read with Rule 4(b) of the Haryana Civil Services (Punishment and Appeal) Rules, 2016. The full bench, comprising the Chief Justice and other judges, has also directed that the officer’s headquarters during the suspension period will be in Haryana. The development comes after a Chandigarh court granted bail to a lawyer who had been arrested in a case linked to an alleged Rs 1.5-crore extortion attempt involving a purportedly morphed video.
