A lorry driver, who was caught while allegedly driving a cement-laden lorry under the influence of alcohol, jumped off the VM Banjar police station building in Khammam district after he was ‘detained’ there for questioning. The lorry driver, identified as Jeevan of Suryapet district, reportedly suffered hip fracture in the incident. Jeevan’s relatives alleged that he was beaten up by the cops at the police station. However, the VM Banjar police denied the allegations. The incident, which took place on Friday, came to light belatedly on Sunday after he was admitted to a hospital in Khammam. Police sources said that the lorry driver was detained by a police team following a complaint by the lorry cleaner on ‘Dial 100’ for allegedly driving the cement-laden lorry in an inebriated condition. A 21-year-old student attempted to end life by jumping from a metro station in the Pimpri Chinchwad area of the Pune district, police said, reported news agency ANI. According to the police, the student currently enrolled in a Bachelor of Computer Science (BCS) program at DY Patil College in Pimpri Chinchwad, attempted suicide by jumping from Sant Tukaram Nagar Metro Station at around 6 pm on Monday, reported ANI. A class 8 student of a private school died by suicide on Saturday by jumping from the school building after being “reprimanded” and “slapped” by a teacher, police said. The incident occurred at around 9.30 am when the Physical Education teacher allegedly rebuked the 14-year-old boy in front of other students. Police said this came after the boy reportedly “turned the direction” of a CCTV camera. The student was rushed to a hospital where he was declared dead, police said. Some students told the media that the teacher had slapped the boy. A note, purportedly written by the boy, apologising to his mother for “ending his life” was found in his book, police said.
