At the centre of a recent political controversy in Telangana is a symbolic but emotionally charged question: who deserves to be called Jatipita, or the Father of Telangana? A Delhi court on Saturday sent Vinod Chauhan, the 18th person to be arrested by the Enforcement Directorate in the excise policy case, to the agency’s custody till May 7. According to ED, Chauhan had transferred money via the hawala route for Aam Aadmi Party’s (AAP) Goa elections and was in regular touch with the members of the ‘South Group’. The Central agency told the court of special judge Kaveri Baweja that Chauhan, who was arrested on Friday, was part of a deep nexus with major conspirators such as Bharat Rashtra Samithi leader (BRS) K Kavitha and certain AAP leaders. “Searches were conducted in Chauhan’s office. Rs 1 crore and Rs 6 lakh were seized. He could not explain the source for the same. On February 13, the Telangana government headed by new chief minister A. Revanth Reddy took all its ministers and legislators on a ‘study tour’ of the Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Scheme (KLIS). Located in the state’s north, on its border with Maha­rashtra, KLIS had been a pet project of the previous chief minister, K. Chandrashekar Rao or KCR. Launched in KCR’s first term as CM , in 2014, it was meant to end the water woes of the semi-arid regions of the state. Except that it is turning out to be a Rs 1.5 lakh crore white elephant that might well fall short of delivering what KCR had promised. Hyderabad: Former Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao who underwent hip replacement surgery was on Friday discharged from the hospital. A source close to him said Rao would be going to his residence at Nandi Nagar here from the hospital. The BRS chief on December 8 successfully underwent an operation of left Total Hip Replacement at the private super-specialty hospital here following a fracture due to a fall at his residence. BRS MLC and Rao’s daughter K Kavitha in a post on ‘X’ said after a successful surgery, her father was discharged from the hospital today. Thanking the doctors, nurses and staff she said, “All the warmth and love we received from across the country during this difficult time was very heartwarming to KCR garu and the entire family.
