(PTI file photo) Kerala’s local self-government department portal, K-SMART, is now expanding to the panchayat level after its successful implementation in municipalities and corporations a year ago. K-SMART (Kerala Solutions for Managing Administrative Reformation and Transformation) is an e-governance platform which enables citizens to access all key local self-government services online Starting today (Thursday), residents in Kerala can register births, deaths, and marriages, pay property taxes, and apply for building permits without the need to visit local government offices. These services can be accessed from anywhere in the world using a phone. The Kerala government’s groundbreaking initiative named K-SMART is set to improve digital access to government services offered by local self-government bodies in the state from January 1, 2024, people familiar with the matter said. The project will be inaugurated by chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan in Kochi on Monday (PTI) The new initiative, consisting of a unified portal and a mobile application is a replacement to the existing myriad software that will take e-governance to a new level, becoming a one-stop for the public to access a range of services from birth, death, and marriage certificates, property tax and building permits, to business licences, they added.
