Former AIADMK Minister K.V. Ramalingam joins TVK

Ramalingam, former Minister in the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) government who held the Public Works, Sports and Youth Welfare portfolios between 2011 and 2013, joined Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) in the presence of the party’s chief coordinator, K. A. Sengottaiyan, at the latter’s residence in Gobichettipalayam late on Thursday (May 14, 2026) night. Mr. Ramalingam was elected to the Assembly from the Erode West constituency in 2011 and 2016. He had been serving as the AIADMK’s Erode Urban district secretary until the party’s general secretary, Edappadi K. Palaniswami, recently removed him from the post. Around 11.30 p.m. on Thursday, Mr. Ramalingam met Mr. Sengottaiyan at his residence in Kullampalayam near Gobichettipalayam and formally joined TVK. Mr. Ramalingam said more than 500 AIADMK cadre and functionaries were likely to join TVK later in the day. Venkatachalapathy DMK president and Chief Minister M.K. Stalin on Tuesday (April 14, 2026) interacted with the residents of Kilvaithinankuppam (K.V. Kuppam), a reserved (SC) Assembly constituency near Katpadi in Vellore district, as part of an early morning outreach campaign ahead of the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections. He engaged directly with the voters and sought their support for the DMK-led Secular Progressive Alliance (SPA). Mr. Stalin set out on a morning walk in the K.V. Kuppam town area, where he stopped at a small tea shop, interacted with locals, and canvassed votes in favour of the DMK and its allies. Veteran journalist K.V. Srinivasan passes away

Srinivasan, fondly addressed as “brother” in journalistic circles in Mysuru, passed away at his native Kalkunike village in Hunsur taluk on Friday evening. He was 81 and had been ailing for some time owing to age-related issues. He had been hospitalised on several occasions in Mysuru. A committed Gandhian known for his simplicity, Mr. Srinivasan mentored several young journalists during his active years. He contributed news from the Mysuru region to Akashvani for many years. With a journalism career spanning over four decades, he worked with several newspapers before serving as a news contributor to Akashvani from 1986 to 2007. After his retirement, Srinivasan had moved to his native village and was living with relatives. He was the founder-editor of Navadwani, a Kannada weekly launched in Mysuru in 1976. Later, he worked with newspapers including Sankranti, Varthamana, Ashoka, Mahanandi, and Vijaya. In recognition of his contributions, he received several honours, including the Karnataka Media Academy award and the Sri Shivarathreeshwara Media award. K.V. Ramakrishnan wins Asan Memorial Poetry Award 2025

Renowned poet K.V. Ramakrishnan has been selected for the Asan Memorial Poetry Award 2025, instituted by Chennai’s Asan Memorial Association and bestowed annually for outstanding contributions to Malayalam poetry. Ramakrishnan’s selection came from a shortlist curated from nominations submitted by poetry enthusiasts and literary admirers. A jury comprising writers Thomas Mathew, P.V. Krishnan Nair, and K.S. Ravikumar unanimously chose him for the award. The jury praised his ability to harmoniously fuse the richness of tradition with a modern poetic consciousness, marking his work as both rooted and refreshingly innovative. The award carries a cash prize of fifty thousand rupees, a citation, and a specially designed sculpture by the acclaimed artist Achuthan Kudallur. The presentation ceremony is scheduled to take place in Chennai in February 2026. K.V. Gowtham is Congress candidate in Kolar

Gowtham, president of the Bengaluru Central District Congress Committee, for Kolar (SC) constituency for the ensuing Lok Sabha elections. With this, the Congress has announced candidates in all 28 Lok Sabha  constituencies in Karnataka. The AICC delayed the announcement of the candidate in Kolar constituency owing to factionalism in the Kolar District Congress Committee. Mr. Gowtham, former State Youth Congress and NSUI office-bearer, belongs to the SC ‘left’ sect. Denial of ticket to Chikka Peddanna, son-in-law of Minister K.H. Muniyappa, is seen as a major political setback to the latter. The candidature of Mr. Gowtham is also seen as a setback to a faction led by former legislative Assembly Speaker K.R.
