Kaantha Ending Explained: Why is Dulquer Salmaan’s Mahadevan at odds with Ayya and who is responsible for Kumari passing away?

Disclaimer: This article contains spoilers. Kaantha, starring Dulquer Salmaan in the lead role, was released in theaters on November 14, 2025. The film is now available for streaming on the OTT platform Netflix after wrapping up its theatrical run. The period mystery drama follows the story of TK Mahadevan (played by Dulquer Salmaan), a superstar of 1950s Madras (now Chennai). In his latest cinematic venture, the actor is set to work on a film titled Shaantha, a horror movie directed by his former mentor Ayya, which features debutant Kumari in the lead role. However, once Mahadevan begins filming, he insists that the movie be made according to his own vision, starting with changing the title to Kaantha, and even begins ghost-directing it. While friction brews between TK and Ayya, a shocking twist occurs when Kumari is found dead. The once-dramatic shooting set becomes a crime scene, with Inspector Devaraj, also known as Phoenix (Rana Daggubati), leading the investigation. The film explores who was responsible for Kumari’s death, whether she receives justice, and why there is …

Kaantha movie review: Dulquer Salmaan’s period drama thriller is visually rich, narratively lean | Movie-review News

Kaantha Movie Review & Rating: Remember director R Balki’s Shamitabh (2015) or his Chup: Revenge of The Artist (2022)? I don’t think I have come across any other Bollywood films in the past decade that have failed to hit the mark so miserably despite having immense potential. Even though Shamitabh and Chup had excellent concepts and intriguing stories, Balki was unable to develop them into watertight scripts that could keep the audience glued to the screens throughout. Instead, what remained were two movies that started on a promising note, lost sight of their potential midway, meandered a lot while offering glimpses of what could have been, and simply ended after a point. Writer-director Selvamani Selvaraj’s period drama thriller Kaantha pretty much falls into the same bracket, where almost all other aspects reflect superlative quality, except for the writing. While the trailer and other promotional materials suggested that Kaantha revolves around the ego-driven battle between “Nadippu Chakravarthy” TK Mahadevan (Dulquer Salmaan), a superstar dominating 1950s Tamil cinema, and his mentor-turned-rival, veteran filmmaker APK alias Ayya (Samuthirakani), …

Dulquer Salmaan’s Kaantha under legal TROUBLE, actor’s grandson SEEKS ban over defamatory portrayal of…, Just days before its release, Kaantha has been dragged to court over allegations that it misrepresents legendary actor M.K. Thyagaraja Bhagavathar. Just days before its scheduled release on November 14, Dulquer Salmaan’s upcoming period drama Kaantha has hit a legal roadblock. B. Thiagarajan, the grandson of iconic Tamil actor and Carnatic musician Thyagaraja Bhagavathar (popularly known as MKT), has approached a Chennai court to stop the film from releasing. He claims the movie portrays his grandfather in a disrespectful and misleading way. According to a report by LiveLaw, Thiagarajan alleged that Kaantha shows MKT as “a man of loose morals” who spent his later years blind, penniless, and struggling. He refuted this portrayal, insisting it is completely untrue. He said that while his grandfather did face a career setback after being implicated and later acquitted in a criminal case, he continued to live a dignified and financially stable life until his death in 1959. The plea …

Dulquer Salmaan’s Kaantha in court after MK Thyagaraja Bhagavathar’s grandson seeks stay on release over ‘defamatory’ portrayal of Tamil cinema’s first superstar | Tamil News

Days ahead of its worldwide release, the highly anticipated period drama thriller Kaantha, helmed by Selvamani Selvaraj and starring Dulquer Salmaan in the lead role, has found itself caught in the midst of controversy after the grandson of veteran Tamil actor MK Thyagaraja Bhagavathar approached a court in Chennai against the film. Claiming that it has portrayed Bhagavathar in a defamatory manner, his kin has demanded a stay on the release of Kaantha. The court has issued notices to the movie’s producers, including Dulquer, seeking an explanation on the matter. Widely regarded as the “first superstar of Tamil cinema,” Bhagavathar once set a nearly unbreakable record when his film Haridas (1944) ran for a whopping 114 weeks (about 784 days) in a theatre. Haridas ranked as the longest-running Tamil film for five decades until it was eventually dethroned by “Superstar” Rajinikanth’s Chandramukhi (2005). Bhagavathar’s superstardom took a steep decline after he was named an accused in the murder of CN Lakshmikanthan, a “notorious yellow journalist.” Don’t Miss | Who is MK Thyagaraja Bhagavathar and what’s …
