In light of the increasing peak-hour electricity demand in Bihar, Sudhakar Singh has put forward the proposal to the state government. In the letter he has demanded that the establishment of hydroelectric projects should be prioritised. Mr. Singh stated that Bihar is a state with an emerging economy, where the demand for electricity is rapidly increasing due to industrial development, agriculture, irrigation, urbanization, and domestic use. “The availability of electricity, especially during peak hours, is becoming a major challenge. Therefore, the state needs to reduce its dependence on fossil fuels and take concrete steps towards clean, green, and sustainable energy sources,” Mr. Singh stated. He explained that several rivers, including the Durgawati, Kuhira, Karmanasha, and Suara, originate from the Kaimur Hills, and important reservoirs like the Durgawati and Jagdahwa already exist. By harnessing these natural resources, additional power can be immediately provided during peak hours through pump storage technology, without wasting water. Mr. Singh stated that a pump storage power plant with a capacity of over 2,000 MW could be developed at the Durgawati Reservoir Project, and approximately 500 MW at the Jagdahwa Reservoir on the Kuhira River.
