Kanpur: A 21-year-old man and his 19-year-old girlfriend were thrashed in public by the former’s parents in Kanpur on Friday. The incident, a video of which has gone viral, took place at the Ramgopal intersection under Gujaini police station area. According to the police, the man, Rohit, was having chowmein with his girlfriend when his parents – Shivkaran and Sushila – arrived at the spot. Rohit’s parents, who disapproved of his relationship, then started thrashing him and his girlfriend. “In this case, the police separated both the parties after counselling them and further necessary legal action is being taken,” the police said in a statement.  In the video, Sushila is seen hitting the young couple, who try to escape on a two-wheeler. A transformer robbery in Uttar Pradesh’s Kanpur took an unexpected turn when one of the thieves came in contact with a live wire and got injured. The man, still alive but in critical condition, was then thrown into the Ganga river by his four accomplices. The incident happened in Kanpur’s Colonelganj area. Himanshu, 22, worked as a scrap dealer and was also a member of a gang that steals transformers. He was earlier arrested and jailed in a transformer theft case. On October 26, Himanshu, along with four others- Shan Ali, Aslam, Vishal, and Ravi – decided to steal a transformer from Kanpur’s Gurudev Palace intersection. However, during the robbery, Himanshu came in contact with a live wire and suffered an electric shock. Three workers were killed and six others critically injured after a major fire broke out at a three-storey factory in Fazalgunj industrial area of Kanpur in the early hours of Friday, police said. Chief fire officer Deepak Sharma said initial probe suggested an electrical short circuit in a mixing machine was the cause of the fire. The fire erupted at SK Industries, which makes cushions and bicycle pedals. “The factory did not have a no objection certificate,” Sharma said, adding that a notice was issued to factory owner Deepak Kataria.
