From Hisar to Supreme Court: CJI Surya Kant’s journey celebrated in his village | Chandigarh News

The swearing-in of Justice Surya Kant as the 53rd Chief Justice of India, who will remain in office till February 9, 2027, sparked celebrations in his village Petwar, in Haryana’s Hisar district, where the villagers distributed laddoos. The Petwar village sarpanch, Urmila, said “We will host a grand function in our village chaupal whenever he visits.” Urmila, with her husband Satbir Singh, had travelled to Delhi to attend the oath ceremony at Rashtrapati Bhawan. Several others from Hisar also met Justice Kant during the events at the Haryana Bhawan and Supreme Court premises in New Delhi on Sunday and Monday. In Hisar, his former classmates who continue to call him ‘Surya’ fondly, exchanged congratulatory messages and memories.
