Karnataka mid-day meals: Eggs six days a week have increased attendance, says Department of Public Instruction

Earlier, when eggs were provided twice a week, the attendance of students was 93.5%, but now it has increased to 98.97%, according to DPI officials. In addition, the number of children eating eggs has increased by about four times compared to the number of students eating bananas — the other additional nutrient being given in schools, officials said. To prevent malnutrition in school children, eggs, bananas and groundnut chikkies were provided to students in government and aided schools from Classes 1 to 10 as additional nutrients along with midday meals. Shankar Chavan (29) and Manjunath Waghmore (22) succumbed to their injuries, taking the toll to six in this incident. The devotees who have died in the accident till now, are Lingaraj Beeranur (19), Nijalingappa Bepuri (58 years), Raju Mugeri (16 years) and Sanjay Savadatti (18 years). They were among those injured in an accident at Achchavva colony in Sai Nagar at a temporary kitchen at the Swami Ayyappa tent on December 22. A case has been registered. Within the first month of implementing digital ticketing, KSRTC collected over ₹5.5 crore through Unified Payments Interface (UPI) transactions. In response to long-standing passenger demands, the KSRTC has adopted cashless payment systems across its bus services. The initiative, introduced on November 6, equipped KSRTC buses with advanced Electronic Ticketing Machines capable of accepting UPI payments as well as debit and credit cards. According to data accessed by The Hindu, between November 6 and November 30, the corporation collected ₹3.63 crore. In the first five days of December, daily collections ranged from ₹34 lakh to ₹42 lakh, with over 30,000 transactions recorded on December 3 alone. “This initiative is to enhance passenger convenience by promoting digital payments and reducing cash handling in KSRTC buses. Airtel Karnataka CEO Rajnish Verma told reporters here that a team of about 50 engineers spent over 10,000 man hours in the last one year to find out ways to protect customers from spammers. “Everyone was helpless when spammers used to make over 3 billion spam calls a year cheating gullible people.” Airtel, therefore, thought of devising some measure to protect its customers, he said. Mr. Verma said the AI-powered solution developed in-house by Airtel data scientists uses a proprietary algorithm to identify and classify calls and SMSes as ‘suspected spam.’ This is done within 2 milliseconds when the call or the SMS passes through the Airtel network using about 250 parameters for filtering. The Karnataka Board of Waqfs has identified 17 monuments inside the historic Bidar Fort in Karnataka as its property, sources in the district administration said on Wednesday (November 6, 2024). These properties are among the major landmarks of the fort located in the district headquarters town of Bidar. The Archaeological Survey of India (ASI), the custodian of the fort, is unaware of the development, the sources said, adding that out of 60 properties in the Bidar Fort premises, the Waqf Board found that 17 properties to belong to it. Chandrasekhar filed a complaint with the Sanjayanagar police alleging that Union Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy and his son Nikhil were trying to intimidate him and obstruct the ongoing investigation. Youth set ablaze by girl’s family in Vijayapura district

A youth, who was in love a girl, was allegedly set ablaze by the girl’s family at Muddebihal in Vijayapura district. However, a counter complaint has been filed by the family, alleging that the youth himself tried to set the girl ablaze. The incident occurred on Monday (May 27) night and the youth — identified as Rahul Biradar — has suffered burn injuries and has been hospitalised. Three of the family members of the girl have also suffered burn injuries.
