Karun Nair Breaks Silence After Being Handed India Comeback: “Was Awaiting…”

Back in the Indian team after a long gap of eight years, batter Karun Nair on Saturday expressed his delight and said he was “awaiting this call” after amassing big runs in the 2024-25 domestic season. Having last played in 2017, Nair was dropped from the team soon after becoming the second triple centurion in Tests from India. “Grateful to get back, happy and proud and fortunate. Found out like all of you found out (about his selection). Was eagerly awaiting the call, got a lot of messages from close ones,” Nair said after playing a pivotal role in Delhi Capitals’ six-wicket win over Punjab Kings in the IPL here. In the Ranji Trophy, he plundered 863 runs in nine matches with four centuries, while in the Vijay Hazare Trophy, he amassed 779 runs in just eight innings, including five centuries, performances that paved the way for his return to the Indian team. “Really happy and proud. Have been batting well in the last 12-16 months. It’s about keeping my processes the same …

Preity Zinta Tears Into Third Umpire Over Unacceptable Mistake, Says “Karun Nair…”

Preity Zinta wasn’t happy with the third umpire’s decision in PBKS vs DC match© BCCI/Sportzpics Punjab Kings co-owner Preity Zinta wasn’t a happy person after a defeat against the Delhi Capitals in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 match on Saturday all but cost her team a plce in the top 2 spots of the points table. PBKS needed to beat DC in order to keep the Qualifier 1 qualification hopes into their own hands but the defeat in the encounter now leaves them on the mercy of other franchises. For Zinta, who watched the match from closed quarters, said that a costly error by the third umpire in the match contributed to her team’s defeat. In the 15th over of the first innings, PBKS star Shashank Singh seemed to have hit Delhi’s Mohit Sharma for a six. On the boundary rope, Karun Nair grabbed the ball and pushed it inside the boundary rope, though he signalled that it was a six as his foot touched the rope. As the third umpire ran …

Karun Nair, India’s Only Triple Centurion Other Than Virender Sehwag, Gets 2nd Chance After 8 Years

Karun Nair, India’s Only Triple Centurion Other Than Virender Sehwag, Gets 2nd Chance After 8 Years

On December 10, 2022, a hurt Karun Nair wrote on his social media handles: ‘Dear cricket give me one more chance.’ On May 24, 2025, cricket replied: ‘Dear Karun, you will get one more chance.’ The 33-year-old Nair got that opportunity for a career re-launch through his selection to the 18-member Indian squad for next month’s tour of England. It’s an extraordinary tale of comeback, of persistence and willingness to grind it out in the disheartening obscurity of domestic cricket over eight years. Even the toughest man can crumble under that draining drill, optimism getting sun-dried by each passing day. But Nair dared to dream a comeback even when the world around him believed that all the hopes had been extinguished. After all, it’s easy to forget old names amidst the rush of fresh talents. However, one part in Nair remained unyielding, forcing him to explore various channels to return to run-making ways, and joining Northamptonshire in English County cricket was a wise first step. In 2023, he made 249 runs from three matches at an average of 83 for Northants, including a hundred against eventual champions Surrey. A year later, Nair aggregated 487 runs from seven matches at an average of 49, including a century against Glamorgan for his County side. But those numbers were …

Sarfaraz Khan Snubbed For India’s Test Squad vs England. Ajit Agarkar Says, “He Got A 100, Then…”

The Indian Test team has officially entered its long-awaited transitional phase when Shubman Gill was named as the captain for the upcoming five-match tour of England, with Rishabh Pant named his deputy. Chief selector Ajit Agarkar admitted that it’s always tough to fill in big holes left by retirements of Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli and Ravichandran Ashwin. The last time a Test played without Rohit, Kohli and Ashwin was on tour of England in 2011. “When guys like that retire, always big holes to fill. Ashwin also retired. Those three have been stalwarts. Always difficult. One way of looking at it is, opportunity for someone else. Had conversations with both of them.” “Virat reached out early April, seen him give 200% on every ball he plays even when he’s not batting or on the field. Felt he’d given everything he had, if he can’t keep up to the standards it was time for him. It’s come from him. Have to respect that. They’ve earned that respect.” “It is a new WTC cycle, you …

Shubman Gill and KL Rahul.© BCCI/Sportzpics There is a lot of debate and discussion surrounding the selection for Team India’s squad for the five-Test series against England in June. Following the retirements of Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, the spot of captain as well as two crucial positions in the top order have opened up. In particular, filling the boots of Virat Kohli at No. 4 is a big problem for India to solve. While Shubman Gill and KL Rahul have been touted as the likely candidates, former India cricketer Sanjay Bangar has thrown a different name into the hat. “I’m thinking of Karun Nair at No.4. If all the talk of giving domestic cricket the priority and (using it as) benchmark, then he has done everything possible to get his Test spot back,” said Bangar, speaking on ESPNcricinfo. Karun Nair has enjoyed a renaissance in domestic cricket over the 2024/25 season. Karun’s Vidarbha reached the Vijay Hazare Trophy final, and won the Ranji Trophy, with Karun enjoying a rich run of form. …

Anil Kumble has vouched for Karun Nair’s inclusion as Virat Kohli’s replacement.© AFP The Indian cricket team will take on England in an upcoming five-match Test series, starting June 20. However, the team will enter unknown territory with both Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli retiring from the format over the past week. Over the past 14 years, Kohli was the backbone of the Indian Test setup, but his retirement leaves the team without a designated no. 4 in the top order. With India’s squad for the series likely to be announced next week, former captain Anil Kumble has vouched for Vidarbha captain Karun Nair‘s inclusion. Karun, who asked for a second chance with a heartfelt tweet in December 2022, made the most of the opportunity while representing Vidarbha domestically. The man who is just the second Indian to blaze his way to a triple hundred exhibited quintessential form, which has pushed a case for his return to the Indian team since his last Test in 2017. He was the fourth-highest run-scorer in last …

“Nearly Fell Off My Chair”: Shane Watson Stunned By Delhi Capitals Strategy Against SRH

Karun Nair was dismissed on first ball of the match© BCCI/Sportzpics The Delhi Capitals earned a point in the rain-hit Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 clash against Sunrisers Hyderabad as the entire second innings was washed out on Monday. The Axar Patel-led side, however, would be happy to have gained a point from a match which they failed to get a grip on since the first ball. Many were left surprised as DC decided to open with Karun Nair and Faf du Plessis. SRH skipper Pat Cummins got Nair caught behind on the first ball of the game, making the tourists regret the strategy instantly. Former Chennai Super Kings all-rounder, Shane Watson, admitted being baffled by DC’s decision to alter their opening combination once again. Including Nair, now 5 different players have opened for the Delhi franchise this season – KL Rahul, Faf du Plessis, Abhishek Porel and Jake Fraser-McGurk. “Something as simple as randomly changing the opening combination-for no apparent reason-was just not needed. I was genuinely surprised. I nearly fell off …
