(Reuters File Image) Eight weeks before terrorists killed 26 people in Kashmir, a US-based space technology company noticed an unusual increase in orders for high-resolution satellite images of Pahalgam and its surrounding areas. Between 2 and 22 February 2025, Maxar Technologies received at least 12 orders – twice the usual number, raising suspicions about the people or companies who made the request. Maxar’s clients include government and defence agencies worldwide. The demand for Pahalgam satellite images began appearing on their portal in June 2024, shortly after Maxar partnered with a Pakistan-based geo-spatial company linked to federal crimes in the US, The Print reported. Amit Shah Reaches Srinagar, Navy Officer Among 26 Killed

New Delhi: Kashmir terror attack updates: At least 26 civilians, mostly tourists, were killed in a terror attack in Pahalgam in Jammu & Kashmir’s Anantnag district on Tuesday, sources said, in what is the deadliest attack in the Valley since the 2019 Pulwama strike.  The attack took place at Baisaran, a meadow accessible only by foot or ponies, where a group of tourists had gone visiting this morning. According to PTI, tourists gathered at Baisaran were from several states, including Karnataka, Maharashtra and Gujarat. The Resistance Front, a shadow group of the banned Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) terror group, has claimed responsibility for the attack. Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a telephonic conversation with Union Home Minister Amti Shah and asked him to take “suitable measures”. Encounter between security forces and militants starts in Sopore in north Kashmir

Security forces engaged a group of hiding militants in a gun battle on Thursday in Baramulla in north Kashmir. It is the second such firefight between militants and security forces in the past 24 hours in north Kashmir.   A spokesman of the Jammu and Kashmir Police said an encounter had started at Check Mohalla, Nowpora, in Sopore. The security forces have not revealed the number of militants hiding in the area. Earlier, on Wednesday, two soldiers sustained minor injuries in a gunfight with militants hiding in a forest range in Bandipora in north Kashmir. A combing operation continued in the area on Thursday. The twin encounters in Kashmir have come after a long lull. Earlier, a Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) terrorist was killed in an encounter with security forces on April 11, which was the first such encounter in three months in the Valley.
