Jothi Ramalingam Work on the Kavarapettai bridge on the Chennai-Tada National Highway (old NH 5/new NH 16 connecting Chennai and Kolkata) is expected to be completed soon. The final bituminous layer is currently being laid on the 2-km-long bridge, which connects four structures: one vehicular underpass, two limited-use vehicular underpasses, and one grade separator. Vehicles will drive inside the retaining walls, with openings provided at each of the structures. The 800-metre-long approach ramp was the last remaining structure to be constructed, and work resumed after a slight revision of rates. According to sources in the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), this is the last work to be carried out on the main carriageway of the 33-km-long road, as part of the six-lane widening.  The ₹295-crore project to build these structures was completed by a second contractor since the first one gave notice and the contract was terminated. Chennai/New Delhi: At least 12 coaches of a long-distance express train derailed after it rammed into a stationary goods train at Kavarapettai in Tamil Nadu on Friday night, Southern Railway officials said, and added that there were no casualties and or life-threatening injuries reported after the accident. Passengers near the derailed coaches after an Express train rammed into a stationary train, in Tiruvallur district on Friday. (PTI) Railway officials said the train appeared to have entered a loop line, where the freight service was parked, an error that will now be investigated. The crash occurred around 8.30pm, shortly after the 12578 Bagmati Express train — travelling from Mysuru in Karnataka to Darbhanga in Bihar — crossed Ponneri station.
