Adarsh Baal Vidyalaya functions in the same mould: this is a sarkari school in the fictional mohalla of Tinki Toli, whose students come from a certain section of society, with parents working low rung jobs, whose only way out of the rut is education. It’s quite ironic that the show is out at a time when student protests are ringing out in Delhi and in other parts of the country, demanding accountability and the reset of an education system which has been systematically devalued over time. Archana Puran Singh’s debut television show Mr Ya Mrs (1987) on Doordarshan, directed by Jalal Agha, revolved around a working woman and her house husband (Jayant Kripalani).
